Alcohol & Drug Rehab & Detox In San Clemente, Orange County

San Clemente is a coastal city on the California Coast, midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. The city is known for its ocean, hill, and mountain views, a pleasant climate, and its Spanish-inspired architecture. The population was 63,522, as of the last census. One of the wealthiest cities in the region and the country, San Clemente has a median income of $98,710 and homes with a median price of $851,200.

This affluent city has its share of drug problems. According to the Orange County Health Care Agency, higher emergency department visits due to opioids rates were found in coastal cities like San Clemente. The city registered the second-highest number of opioid-related emergency department visits between 2011 and 2015, with 301 cases, or 60 a year. In terms of opioid-related deaths, there were 21 during the period, or an average of four each year.

More recently, the city has been facing a homeless crisis, with approximately 145 homeless people living in the city. A report from OC Weekly in June 2019 interviewed one of the campers who said that drug use is “rampant” within the encampments.

What The Community is Doing

The Orange County Health Department has taken steps to prevent opioid and heroin overdose by providing Naloxone kits and prescriptions. Naloxone can be effective in reversing an opioid overdose from prescription pain killers and heroin. Each of these kits contains two vials of naloxone hydrochloride, gloves, alcohol swabs, syringes, and a CPR mask. Free clean syringes are also provided.

Addiction Problems

For some, the addictions begin with teenage experimentation. Teens try drugs or alcohol as part of a pattern of teenage curiosity or rebellion. In time, they find they can no longer control when they use drugs or how much they take.

For others, addictions begin due to workplace pressures. They lean on substances to help them cope with their jobs and the struggles they must deal with every day. In time, the drugs become a critical part of life that they have no control over.

No matter how your addiction began, there are treatments available that can help you get control once more. There are publicly funded and charitable programs that can provide help for free, and there are private-pay options that offer similar support.
