Drug Addiction is a Complicated Disorder

Drug addiction is a complicated disorder that affects every aspect of life.

Many drugs alter their users’ brain chemistries and a vicious cycle ensues. And many appear with alcohol addictions, too.

Because these addictions often occur together, the numbers are often presented together. Drug addictions typically coexist with underlying mental health issues, as well.

In 2018, 9.2 million adults had both a mental illness and a substance use disorder. This is referred to as a dual diagnosis.

Human brain chemistry is already complicated. When substances and mental health issues are added to the mix, things often get messy.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health

Substance abuse and mental health disorders are two common reasons for drug addictions. But they’re not the only reasons.

Addictive prescriptions and social pressures are two others. Genetic and environmental factors have a large impact.

Most experts agree that about half of the risk for developing an addiction is genetic. Beginning drug use may be voluntary but developing an addiction is not.

Drug addiction is a chronic brain disease that leads to compulsive and often uncharacteristic behaviors.

Once an addiction takes hold, it is very difficult to quit without help.

It is Important to Understand Your Addiction

Before you can overcome your addiction, it is important to understand it. The factors leading to addiction are different for everyone.

Before and during drug rehab treatment, we’ll work with you to identify these factors.

Once you understand why your addiction occurred and how it affects your life, recovery will seem much more approachable.

As each barrier is removed, your strength and confidence will increase. Drug rehab is an excellent way to find long-term sobriety.

For some patients, it’s the only way their sobriety will last.

Signs of a Drug Addiction

Drug addiction impacts lives in a wide variety of ways. First, you will likely experience behavioral changes.

This is due to the way drugs alter your brain chemistry.Your mental and physical health may both be impacted pretty quickly.

You’ll experience overwhelming cravings and may face withdrawal symptoms if you try to quit on your own. You may also notice a detrimental impact on your relationships.

This includes personal relationships with loved ones and professional ones with employers and coworkers. All of these changes are signs of a drug addiction.

If there are other factors involved, like a high-stress job or abusive relationships, your drug addiction may become harder to identify.

Many addicts will deny their addictions for a long time before they seek treatment. If you are looking for signs that you have a drug addiction, that’s a sign in itself.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient Drug Rehab

Inpatient drug rehab is ideal for treating complicated addictions. This may mean multiple addictions or a dual diagnosis.

Intense withdrawal symptoms and uncontrollable cravings are other good reasons to choose inpatient drug rehab care.

Our inpatient programs at Resurgence Behavioral Health are designed to treat a variety of addictions and related issues. You’ll have continued support throughout your recovery and beyond.

You’ll receive a comprehensive schedule and three healthy meals per day, so you can focus solely on sobriety. Inpatient care takes the guesswork out of recovery.

Therapeutic and Holistic Healing Techniques

Our therapeutic and holistic healing techniques provide the tools, education, and guidance you need to get better.

You will learn how to manage your addiction and situations that contribute to it. Many patients abuse drugs to deal with stress.

We’ll teach you stress management techniques, too. We also offer exercise classes, outings, and nutritional guidance.

By the time you complete your inpatient program, you will have everything you need to return home and stay strong.

Wide Range of Addiction Treatment Options

We offer a range of addiction treatment options because we know that everyone is different.

Each patient has different addictions, needs, preferences, and responsibilities.

For patients with milder addictions who don’t require a medically-assisted detox, outpatient drug rehab may be an option.

It may also be an option if you can’t leave your home due to work or family obligations.

You’ll experience many of the same therapies, counseling, management technique trainings, and support groups. At the end of each, you will return home.

Outpatient Care

However, outpatient care is not recommended for everyone. Some patients need a higher level of stability. Others have a history of relapsing that they cannot break.

Certain drug addictions lead to troubling withdrawal symptoms. If your addiction is severe, you have multiple addictions, or you have a dual diagnosis, inpatient care is likely to be the better option.

Outpatient care is effective but it is less structured. We’ll help you determine which option is better for you.

Our initial admissions questionnaire will give us the information we need to further evaluate your addiction and needs.

Drug Rehab Detox Process

One reason we often recommend inpatient drug rehab is enforcing early sobriety. This is often the hardest part.

When a safe, facilitated drug detox takes place, your chances of success are often higher. Get away from temptations and the opportunity to relapse.

You will give yourself a stronger start. Patients with severe addictions may also be eligible for a medically-assisted detox.

An approved, non-addictive medication will be used to help you through your detox. These medications can ease your withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings.

The average detox will take from three to ten days. Once you’re through the detox phase, you’ll feel stronger and clearer.

Now, you can focus on getting better.
