What to Bring to Rehab A Checklist for Addiction Treatment Resurgence Behavioral Health

How to Pack for Addiction Treatment

There are many components that go into planning for your time in rehab, specifically if you plan to work through an inpatient program. One of the most popular questions that we receive from clients revolves around what to bring to rehab. This is an important consideration as you will want to feel comfortable and at ease throughout the course of your stay. While the Resurgence Behavioral Health team is always here to answer any of your questions regarding what you should bring with you, here is a brief overview of important tips to keep in mind when packing.

What to Bring to Alcohol and Drug Rehab?

When considering what to bring to rehab, here are a few examples of items that you should always have on hand:

  • At least one weeks’ worth of clothing
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Current medications

It’s important that you be conscious of the fact that any personal hygiene products that you bring with you be free of any alcohol. Also, if you smoke, you will want to ensure that you bring enough cigarettes with you to last your entire stay.

What Not to Bring to Rehab

While it’s important to understand what you can bring to rehab with you, it’s just as important to have an understanding of what you cannot bring to rehab so this way you aren’t in a position of feeling frustrated when you cannot have certain items. Here are some examples of what you cannot bring to rehab:

  • Perfume, cologne, or any type of hair sprays that contain alcohol
  • Caffeinated products such as energy drinks or weight loss supplements
  • Clothing that may be offensive or inappropriate in a treatment type setting

If you have any questions regarding items that may possibly not be appropriate for rehab, we encourage you to speak in detail with a member of our team about these items before you come to Resurgence for treatment.

Bringing Your Cell Phone and Laptop to Rehab

We understand that in this technology-driven age, it’s important that you have certain ways to contact friends and family members using these types of electronic methods. However, it’s important to remember that you need to give yourself time to adjust to the new routine of treatment. Although you can bring your cell phone and laptop to rehab with you, during the first two weeks, these electronic devices will be held in the administrative office so that you can give yourself time to adjust and stabilize. Don’t worry, we will document and store them carefully, so you don’t need to worry about anything happening to them. After those first two weeks, we will coordinate with you when it comes to certain times during the day so that you can still communicate with the people that you love or check out certain things online.

Although we realize that you may want to be on your computer or your phone more often, it’s critical to your overall recovery that you remain focused on the reason why you are at Resurgence Behavioral Health in the first place. You are there for either alcohol rehab or drug rehab and, as a result, it’s important that you interact with our team as well as other clients that are working through their own treatment program.

If you have more questions or concerns regarding packing for rehab or what you can expect during addiction treatment, please reach out to us at (855) 458-0050. Our team will always take the time to speak with you about your options for drug rehab or alcohol rehab so that you can determine what to bring to rehab and feel more at ease with the process.
