What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a critical component of most addiction care programs.

Addiction does not affect the individual alone.

It affects the people closest to the individual as well.

Family therapy addresses the needs of all family members and highlights the interdependent nature of these relationships.

The goal is to achieve a productive change for the whole family.

How Family Therapy Fits into Recovery

In recovery from substance abuse, it is crucial to develop reliable support systems.

Many people find that their strongest support system is made up of family members, their spouse, and other close connections.

Friends and co-workers are also often involved in these support systems.

Family therapy gives you a chance to speak openly and honestly, understand one another, and work together to achieve mutual goals.

Addiction and Mental Health

Therapy is often connected to mental health. You may wonder what that has to do with your addiction initially, but addiction and mental health are often linked. Often, someone who experiences a substance abuse disorder will also experience a mental health disorder. This is true in either order, whether the addiction or the mental health disorder came first.

The combination of addiction and mental health disorder is called a dual diagnosis. This combination can be a difficult one to overcome. Our high-level dual diagnosis care program can help address each of these disorders simultaneously.

Other Traditional Therapies in Addiction Recovery

Whether or not there is a mental health disorder contributing to your addiction, therapy is one of the most common and beneficial addiction care methods. Behavioral therapies provide a wide range of benefits and help you work toward a wide range of recovery goals. Among others, our behavioral therapies may help you:

  • Find and develop your motivation to change
  • Recognize incentives for sobriety
  • Build relapse prevention skills
  • Replace drug-seeking behaviors with constructive and rewarding ones
  • Improve your problem-solving skills
  • Build healthier and more beneficial relationships

Things like life skills training and relapse prevention training aid these behavioral therapies and help you work toward long-term recovery.

Family Therapy and Traditional Methods vs. Creative and Holistic Remedies

Family therapy is one of the most common traditional therapies in addiction care settings. But there are several other behavioral therapies, as well as creative and holistic remedies that may also be featured. In addition to the benefits of traditional therapy methods listed above, there is a wide range of other benefits that may be achieved with holistic remedies.

Creative therapy methods like art therapy and music therapy can help you find healthy ways to express yourself. They can also boost your mood, confidence, and self-esteem. These therapy sessions give you a creative outlet you can use to express yourself and gain a clearer understanding of your thoughts and feelings.

Choosing the Right Treatment Setting

When you first learn of all the addiction treatment options that are out there, choosing one can seem daunting. But you do not have to worry about choosing one on your own. We will help you choose the right program based on your unique addiction, mental health, and other needs. We will evaluate these needs and your concerns to ensure that what we are giving you matches up. We offer a variety of treatment options, including:

  • Inpatient care programs
  • Outpatient care programs
  • Intensive outpatient care programs
  • Partial hospitalization programs
  • Aftercare planning and services
  • Dual diagnosis programs
  • 12-step programs

Trauma-informed care, gender-specific treatments, alumni programs, and other specialized care options are also available.

Balancing Body and Mind

Now that we have touched on proven traditional therapies and creative therapy options, there is one more key component to consider. Holistic remedies and recreational activities like beach trips, yoga sessions, fitness classes, and guided meditations complete the program. These types of activities help improve both your mental and physical health, allowing you to find balance and peace in everyday activities.

An effective treatment program should address the needs of both your mind and body, not just one or the other. Achieving this type of harmony can help you stay strong and confident in your sobriety, as well as providing you with healthy activities to choose over drug or alcohol-seeking behaviors. A well-rounded approach gives you the greatest chances of reaching your goals and maintaining long-term sobriety. We give you everything you need to become and remain sober.

Addiction Treatment Program Options

Whether your addiction is mild, moderate, or severe, we have an addiction treatment program option that will meet you where you are in your recovery journey and help you get where you need to be. For clients with severe addictions, troubling withdrawal symptoms, and other concerns, an inpatient stay offers 24-hour treatment support. These programs often start with medical detoxification, as well. This type of detox helps prevent complications and manage withdrawal symptoms to make this beginning stage easier for you.

During this program, you will participate in therapy sessions, support groups, holistic remedies, and recreational activities. After an inpatient stay, most clients will graduate to a partial hospitalization program. You will continue to benefit from many of the same treatment methods, but you will spend less time in our facility. This is similar to the next two stages: intensive outpatient care and traditional outpatient care. From there, aftercare is also available.

Choosing Your Treatment Program

The traditional recovery path follows the outline listed above, beginning with medical detox and an inpatient or residential care program. This full-time care program is often followed by a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, outpatient program, and aftercare. 12-step programs and alumni groups often begin around this time, as well. But not everyone goes through the recovery process in this order. We will work with you to choose the addiction treatment program and path that best suits your unique addiction and needs.

Every individual is different. What is best for you may not be what is best for another in your recovery group. To make our addiction care programs as effective as possible, we customize them at every stage. Even after you begin a care program, we will continue to monitor your progress to ensure we are giving you the right levels and types of care and in the appropriate settings. Once you begin your recovery journey with us, we walk the rest of the path with you. We offer comprehensive care in a relaxed, safe, and residential environment. We offer addiction treatment that just works.

Paying for Family Therapy

Family therapy is often part of a larger addiction care program. It can be hard to outline costs before we begin to get to know you and put together a customized addiction care plan. But we can start with a complimentary insurance verification. Call our office today. Our addiction counselors are on call to perform this service and get you started. Most health insurance companies offer coverage for addiction care, and we work with most major health insurance providers to make this process easier for our clients.

Once we know what is covered under your health insurance plan, we can begin to piece together a plan for the rest. If your coverage falls short or you do not have coverage at this time, please ask about alternative payment options. We will work with you to get you the care you need and deserve. Costs should not prevent you from making a change that may impact the rest of your life.
