Alcohol Detox Program
Alcohol addiction is a serious affliction, and you should never try to quit drinking “cold turkey” on your own. The withdrawal symptoms are intense, and can shift from uncomfortable to life-threatening quickly if delirium tremens (DTs) sets in. The DTs can include symptoms like high fever, agitation, hallucinations and seizures, and can lead to death if not treated by medical professionals.
At Resurgence Behavioral Health Rochester, we offer a Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) for alcohol detox that will keep you safe and will help get rid of most of your withdrawal symptoms as the alcohol leaves your system. These medications will also help you rest, and if you have a dual diagnosis, we will also begin psychiatric medication and therapy at this time. Counselling is introduced to all MAT patients as well, so you can deal with any emotions or traumatic thoughts that may come up.
Drug Detox Program
When detoxing from drugs, you first have to stop taking them. Although this seems obvious, it is not an easy task to undertake, and you may require professional help when withdrawal symptoms begin. At Resurgence, our Medically Assisted Treatment Program is recommended for anybody stopping use of drugs, but especially for those quitting a substance with known severe withdrawal symptoms like meth, benzodiazepines, or opiates like heroin or oxycontin. With our FDA-approved, prescription doses of medication that are administered by our clinical staff, the worst of your drug cravings, pain and other discomfort will be taken away, so you can rest your body and get through this necessary part of your recovery before you can move on to rehab.

Alcohol Rehab in Rochester
Inpatient Alcohol Rehab is the next step after detoxing. You will move into our residence, a comfortable room with a full-size bed and a TV, and you will begin an integrated program of individual and group therapy, education, life-skills, nutritional counselling, exercise, vocational skills and rest.
Your days will be highly structured with a schedule of appointments and groups that you will follow, and the evenings have enough free time that you will be able to truly relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Our rehab facilities are surrounded by nature and are peaceful, community-oriented places, so you will find the space to really get to know yourself again and reflect upon what you’ve learned.
After your 30-, 60-, or 90-day inpatient rehab program is complete, we will help you figure out what kind of outpatient and aftercare program will best suit your needs.
Drug Rehab in Rochester
During the intake procedures at Resurgence, we learn about your history of drug use, we screen for physical and mental health issues, and we interview you to get to know you as a person. In our whole patient approach to treatment, we don’t see you as just another addiction, we find out about your goals and your personality, and we take these into account when we set up your customized rehab program.
During rehab for Rochester residents, you move into our facility for a minimum of 30 days, so you will be removed from your usual temptations and triggers at home and can completely focus on your recovery. Each day you will get up in the morning, complete your scheduled day of therapy, groups, exercise, education and other programming, with free time in the evenings.
When your time in the inpatient rehab program ends, we will build a custom aftercare program for you that will work for your needs and help you meet your long-term sobriety goals. There is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) that offers full days of programming as you live at home, treating outpatient care as your full-time job, and there is the Intensive Outpatient Program, a flexible program that will work around your life, work schedule, and other responsibilities, with therapy and groups in the evenings. Whichever program you choose, we can customize it to best suit you and it can change alongside you as your needs evolve.
How Much Does Rehab Cost?
The cost of rehab depends on many factors, like how much time you spend with us and which programs you partake in. To find out specifics, we will have to work together to figure out which therapies and medications you may need, and you will also have to speak with your insurance provider to find out what they cover. Our goal at Resurgence is to make sure everybody who needs help can get it, and we want to help you. We offer payment plans and can help you customize your program to best suit your budget.
How Long Is Detox?
Everybody’s experience with detox is different and at Resurgence, we don’t like to force people to fit into definitive timelines. In general, you will be in our detox facility for around 5 to 10 days, maybe more, and your withdrawal symptoms will be at their peak at around the 72-hour mark.
Some factors that affect detox timelines include:
- What drug you were taking, how you were using it (smoking, snorting, ingestion, injection) and how much were you using at one time
- How long you were using the drug
- If you were mixing it with alcohol or other substances
- Your physical and mental health
Medical detox is recommended as it is the safest and most effective method for stopping drug use. The medications provided will not produce a euphoric high, nor will they create a new addiction. They will help you get through this necessary part of your recovery as smoothly as possible. We do not want anybody to have to suffer, so our clinical staff will be there for you 24 hours a day to ensure everything is going as well as possible for you.

How Long Is Rehab?
Rehab at Resurgence Behavioral Health is divided into two types: short-term rehab and long-term rehab. Short-term rehab is 30 days long, the recommended minimum time, and long-term is 60 or 90 days long. Long-term rehab is ideal for people with a history of relapsing, people who are resistant to treatment, or people with a co-occurring mental health condition. Our facility is safe and supportive, with staff available to you 24 hours a day. The longer the stay in rehab, the lower your risk of relapse will be.
30 Day Rehab (Short Term)
The minimum stay in short-term rehab is a recommended 30 days. In this time, you will be guided by our expert, empathetic staff as you go to therapy, and work on yourself, gaining sobriety and recovery skills that will help you throughout the rest of your life. The day-to-day life in inpatient rehab for Rochester residents is highly structured so you will be continuously progressing and meeting your goals, working on your sobriety, and getting to the underlying reasons for your addiction. One month of working on yourself in rehab will greatly reduce your risk of relapsing.
Long Term Rehab (60-90 Days)
Long-term rehab is 60 or 90 days in inpatient care, giving you the time and space you need to focus on your recovery away from the stress and triggers that pervade everyday life. You will attend a variety of therapy sessions, groups and meetings, and educational sessions, and we provide life-skills and vocational training to give you a leg-up in your future endeavors. You will have medical supervision, and we will provide healthy food and exercise training so you can get your body healthy as you work to find the root of your addiction.
Does My Insurance Have Coverage For Rehab?
Addiction and mental health issues are covered as essential health benefits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) because they are medical diseases. It is worthwhile to have a conversation with your insurance company to find out what specific medications and treatments are covered under your plan, as each provider is different, with different coverage options.

Additional Therapies & Addiction Treatments Available:
At Resurgence Behavioral Health, we offer a variety of therapy, education and other treatments, so we can create a program that is interesting and works for you and your specific needs. If someone is not a fan of talk therapy, for example, they might want to try experiential therapy or EMDR. Different therapies are good for different mental health conditions, so it is worthwhile to try them so you can get to the root of your addiction once and for all.
Couples Rehab
Couples who drink or use drugs together will find that they become distant from one another emotionally, fight more, and the relationship begins to suffer. Even the closest partnerships will suffer over time when addiction is involved.
If you find that the boundaries are blurred when it comes to issues like domestic violence or exploiting others for drugs or money and you are becoming isolated from friends and family due to drug use, it may be time to get professional help. Couples’ rehab can help you with the feeling that you need to drink or use drugs to enjoy spending time together and can help create a better and more communicative relationship, with a higher level of satisfaction.
You will have a higher chance of abstaining from substances with your partner acting as your built-in support system, and couples’ rehab will help you avoid more damage to your relationship as you work on triggers, codependency and self-control. You will find new ways to spend time together, express your love for one another, and live a sober life together. We will help you gain a more communicative, happier and healthier relationship, with new ways to live your best lives without drugs or alcohol getting in your way.
Pet Friendly Rehab
We allow pets at Resurgence Behavioral Health.
We are a pet-friendly rehab for our Rochester clients two main reasons:
- Needing to care for your pet can become a barrier to entering residential rehab.
-
- Boarding a pet in a kennel can be expensive and it can feel traumatic to leave your pet with strangers
- Asking a loved one to watch your pet can feel like a burden on them
- You may become distracted wondering how your pet is doing without you
- Having animals around can be beneficial to your health and your recovery.
-
- Pets provide unconditional love, emotional support and companionship
- Having an animal around can lower your blood pressure and heart rate
- People with pets around have improved feelings of self-worth and purpose
- Walking a dog will increase your physical activity and socialization
- Animals can improve mental states of being and provide stress relief

MAT
Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a detox program that is recommended for anybody detoxing from alcohol or other substances that can have severe withdrawal symptoms, like opioids or meth. MAT is an integrated treatment, using a combination of prescription medication under clinical supervision, with therapy and medical care to ensure not only that your body remains healthy through the detox process, but that you have emotional support as you go through this difficult time.
With MAT, you will not get high or develop a new addiction, as the FDA-approved medications are given at prescription doses by medical professionals. Withdrawal symptoms can sometimes get dangerous if not overseen by professionals, so MAT is recommended as a safe and effective means of detoxing that will greatly reduce your risk of relapsing in the future.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a commonly used therapeutic model when it comes to addiction. The focus is on treating underlying emotional disorders while modifying behavior and thought patterns that can lead to substance use and relapse. You will learn to find alternate ways of dealing with your problems that don’t involve self-destructive behavior, and you will find the reasons behind your addiction.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy has an emphasis on the psychological and social aspects of addiction. You will find the underlying reasons for your substance abuse, identify your self-destructive behaviors, and work to replace your negative emotions and responses with positive ones.
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy has a focus on the way you look at an issue. The idea is that your perspective determines the way you feel about something, so you can actively look at situations using rational thought, and they become less traumatic or troubling. REBT challenges patients about their own thoughts and responses, and their emotions related to addiction with logical, positive responses.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Dual diagnosis treatment is used when a patient shows signs of having co-occurring disorders like a mood disorder, PTSD, ADHD, or depression, alongside an addiction. Co-occurring disorders impact one another, and they need to be treated at the same time, in the same facility, by the same treatment team, using integrated treatment.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is used to treat trauma, panic and anxiety by helping a brain become “unstuck” from traumatic memories that the brain cannot store properly, using dual awareness. The therapist will use tapping, auditory tones or eye movements as you re-experience the traumatic incident, so you will be aware of two sensations at the same time. This will help you safely reprocess the information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive and will help you gain insight on the event and your thoughts surrounding the event.
Relapse Prevention
As much as we wish they were, detox and inpatient rehab are not cure-all treatments. Addiction is a long-term disease, and even if you are feeling ready to face the world with all your new recovery skills after rehab, once you get back home and get back into your normal routines you may begin to feel the urge or pressure to give up, “just have one”, or relapse completely. These moments are why it is important to maintain a connection to our sober community. At Resurgence, we have ways to support you and all our Rochester clients.
We have a strong alumni group that you can reach out to at any time. You can find them online, and you have an open invitation to join any of their gatherings or meetings, so you can find sober friends and sponsors, and go out to do sober activities with them.
If you need a sober place to live for a while, we can connect you to a sober living home (sometimes known as a halfway house) in Rochester, NY. These are homes with strict rules about drugs and alcohol. Each sober home is different with different levels of stringency and different levels of care, and we can find the home that best suits your lifestyle and preferences.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an outpatient program that will keep you firmly connected to our sober community as you step back out into the world. You will live outside the facility but return for full days of therapy, groups, and other programs, up to 7 days a week if you wish. The PHP is excellent for people who are worried about feeling overwhelmed when they first leave rehab or for people with a history of relapsing.
If you are ready to get back to school or work, or if you have other responsibilities you need to attend to, you can also join our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This is an outpatient program that is flexible and customized to fit around your schedule. You will still have therapy and attend groups, as well as maintain your connection to medical and psychological professionals, but they will happen around your schedule in the evenings or weekends.

Life Skills Training
The unique life-skills training program at Resurgence Rochester provides help with navigating life’s challenges while sober. You will gain the tools you need to be able to handle problems, communicate effectively, and take responsibility for your own actions. Some of the topics covered include:
- Social skills
- Going to work
- Drug and alcohol resistance skills
- Cleaning
- Maintaining a normal routine and a schedule
- Living independently
- Taking care of your body with nutrition, exercise and hygiene
We will help you fill in your knowledge gaps so when you leave our care you will know how to be self-sufficient and live a healthy and safe life. You will meet your future goals and become a more independent person.
Vocational Training
Working and self-sufficiency can be important steps for people in recovery because it helps establish financial independence, gives structure to each day and creates opportunities to meet new people, promoting social skills. Employment might not have been a goal or focus on your life before, as addiction was the priority, or you may have had difficulty finding or keeping a job. At Resurgence Behavioral Health, we offer vocational training to help with the basics, like building a resume, interviewing skills and maintaining a regular schedule, so that you will be able to find a part-time or full-time job and become more independent and self-sufficient.
Group Therapy
At Resurgence Pittsburgh there are many different processes, educational and peer group therapies you can join. This is where several patients will gather under the supervision of one or more therapists and discuss a theme or topic together.
In group therapy, you will join a group of patients, overseen by one or more therapists, who are gathered to discuss a topic, theme or issue. People benefit from groups for many reasons. You can learn new coping strategies and ways for dealing with issues from your peers, and it may be a relief to find out you are not alone in your struggles as you listen to others talk.
Groups can give you a voice to express your opinions, promoting social skills. You can work through issues using brainstorming, and help others find answers to their problems. Talking and listening to others can help you put your own issues into perspective and can help you gain a new self-awareness. Most importantly, you will find a whole supportive network in groups, who know what you are going through and can help you through the difficult times.
Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy is customized to work with each client differently. You will use expressive activities and tools you enjoy, like doing art, taking care of animals, going on an outdoor adventure, or building something, and at the same time, talk through issues that have been causing you to feel shame, guilt or anger with your therapist. The neutral or positive feelings you gain from the experiences will help you feel disconnected from the negative emotions as you talk about them, helping you reframe your responses.
Addiction Treatment that

One on One Therapy
One on one, individual therapy is also known as psychotherapy, talk therapy or counseling. You will meet with a therapist and talk to them about issues that are making you feel unhappy, overwhelmed or hopeless, and work through things that are causing you distress. You can learn healthy coping skills for handling difficult situations, reducing stress, and improving your quality of life.
In the case of addiction, one-on-one therapy is effective because a trained therapist can help you find the underlying root of your symptoms and can provide strategies to stop unwanted or self-destructive behaviors.
Family Therapy
Family therapy can help your family work on issues like trust issues, intense emotions, poor communication, guilt, problematic behaviors, and can provide education about addiction to family members. It is a short-term type of counseling that helps families work through stressful times and conflicts, improve troubled relationships, and improve communication with one another.
Family therapy is beneficial in the case of addiction because family members can learn how to best support their loved one at home and understand more about addiction and the psychological and physical changes substances can have on their family members.
Each family treatment plan is different because each family is unique, but any situation that causes anger, stress, grief or conflict can be helped in family therapy. The skills that are learned in family therapy can last a lifetime, and can improve your relationship, bringing you closer together as you understand each other better.
Trauma Informed Therapy (After PTSD)
With Resurgence Behavioral Health, we use trauma informed care for all treatment, a helpful approach for those with PTSD. This means our staff are educated on the signs of trauma and will not re-traumatize our patients. We want to ensure you always feel safe, and we use a combination of informed consent, transparent decision making, open communication, and patient empowerment to build and maintain your trust.
Physical Fitness
A regular physical fitness routine can lower the chance of relapsing for people in recovery because it improves your sense of well-being and general mental health, it can add structure to your day, distract you from cravings, and a sports team or running club is an excellent way to meet other people interested in health, sober living, and exercise.
When you are in residential rehab Rochester at Resurgence Behavioral Health, you can use our physical fitness equipment, and each Resurgence location offers sports and games like basketball, volleyball, ping pong and cornhole. Combined with therapy and medications, exercise and nutrition will help you improve and maintain your physical well-being for a long-term, healthy recovery.

Off Site Activities
At Resurgence, we extend an open invitation to our patients to join us on our off-site outings. Rehab can be a lot of work, and sometimes a change of scenery is nice, so we bring our patients to sites around the area. Depending on which Resurgence campus you are staying in, we will bring you to nature spots for outdoor activities like hiking or surfing, relaxing on a beach or swimming, or we will check out local attractions. Church visits are optional on Sundays.
Why Choose Resurgence
At Resurgence, we make sure we get to know our patients as individuals, helping each person to meet their goals, tailoring your recovery program to your unique needs. Our aim is to treat not only your addiction to drugs or alcohol, but also to treat the underlying and co-occurring disorders that may accompany addiction in a “whole patient” approach. Many rehab centers can feel impersonal and cold, and it is important to us that you know you matter to us, and we want to help you succeed.
An important part of treatment is relapse prevention, and at Resurgence, through our Partial Hospitalization Program, our Intensive Outpatient Program, our alumni network, and our relapse prevention programs, we can help you transition from residential rehab to a self-directed sober life home in Rochester, with long-term success in your recovery.
