Drug and alcohol addiction is a disease that can happen to anybody, no matter who you are or what your life is like. It can take many forms like an addiction to prescription pain pills, buying meth on the street, or being unable to stop having a few too many drinks every night.

Some signs you may have an addiction include:

  • Being unable to stop using the substance without having withdrawal symptoms, having cravings for the substance and having difficulty cutting back or stopping
  • All your social activities are beginning to revolve around getting, using, and recovering from the substance
  • Extreme mood changes, changes in sleep habits and change in energy
  • Feeling shame or the need to lie about your substance use
  • Missing or performing poorly at work, school, or other responsibilities because of substance use
  • Having an increased tolerance to the substance and needing to take more to get the same effect
  • Continuing to drink or use drugs even when it begins to cause health, family, and money problems
  • Prioritizing the substance use over important events or other people in your life

Drug and alcohol abuse can start out simply, with a person trying to stop unwanted feelings due to trauma or mental illness, or having a few drinks to cope with stress, and some people live in areas where drug use is normalized, but once the body adapts to having the substance around, chemical changes begin to happen in the brain, and you then start to need to use the substance just to feel normal.

Alcohol Detox Program

When you first enter a rehab program, you have to stop drinking alcohol. It may sound simple, but alcohol withdrawal can actually be quite severe, which is why a detox should always be supervised by medical professionals.

When you stop drinking alcohol, some of the uncomfortable, milder symptoms may include:

  • Anxiety and mood swings
  • Tremors
  • Uncontrollable sweating
  • Confusion or brain fog
  • Irritability
  • Nightmares
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Headache
  • Increased heart rate

If you have been drinking for a long time, drinking heavily, or if other health issues are present, the worry is that you may experience delirium tremens (DTs). The DTs are dangerous alcohol withdrawal symptoms that can quickly become life-threatening. They may include physical, auditory, or tactical hallucinations, seizures, agitation, confusion, and high fever, and can sometimes lead to death if not treated.

At Resurgence Behavioral Health we can help you detox from alcohol in a safe and comfortable environment. You will check in to our detox program and move in until detox is over. We offer a Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program for detoxing in which we provide prescription medications to help you through the worst of the symptoms, help you rest, and help stop alcohol cravings. Our clinical staff will be there to monitor your progress 24 hours a day and are just outside your door if you need them.

MAT is an integrated treatment, and includes therapy, as well as treating co-occurring issues like PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, or other mental health issues in a dual diagnosis plan. This psychological care will continue when you move into rehab after detox is over.

When you place yourself in our care for alcohol detox, we will ensure you remain safe. We don’t want anybody to have to needlessly suffer, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that you feel comfortable throughout your detox.

Drug Detox Program

The first step to quitting drugs is to stop using them, which is easier said than done. The most effective and least painful way to detox from drugs is through a medical drug detox program. At Resurgence, our Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) will help curb drug cravings, help you rest, keep you safe, and get you through the uncomfortable physical symptoms like:

  • Insomnia
  • Aches and Pains
  • Flu-like Symptoms
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion

MAT is especially recommended for people who are detoxing from substances with severe withdrawal symptoms, like opiates, meth, or alcohol. When you join our MAT program, we will provide FDA-approved prescription medications that will not produce a euphoric high, but will stop your drug cravings without creating a new addiction. We can also give you medications to treat co-occurring mental illnesses, help you rest, and ensure you remain safe and comfortable as the drugs leave your system. We will also make sure you remain hydrated and are eating enough healthy food, and we will introduce therapy at this time so you can deal with any unwanted emotions or trauma that may come up.

Once the drugs have left your system and your withdrawal symptoms are gone or manageable on your own, we will move you into our inpatient rehab clinic so you can begin your next phase of treatment.

Alcohol Rehab in Pittsburgh

Alcohol Rehab in Pittsburgh with Resurgence is an integrated program, meaning it is a program that uses individual and group therapy, as well as life-skills training, vocational skills training, and educational classes. There is also a focus on getting your body strong and healthy through nutritional counseling and exercise, and there is plenty of time for rest and recreation. We treat each patient as a whole person, getting to know you and your preferences, and we can customize a program that will suit you and your goals for the future.

When you join our inpatient rehab program, you will move into our facility for 30 to 90 days, living in a comfortable, home-like room (not a hospital room), with a full-sized bed and a TV. Smoking is allowed in designated areas, and we are a pet-friendly facility. Our onsite chef prepares fresh meals twice a day with a special hot breakfast on Sundays, and snacks are available any time.

The days are regimented, with scheduled groups, therapy, and medical appointments, and the evenings are free-time, so you can rest and reflect on what you’ve learned, watch TV, work out, or join us for our group activities like movie nights or game nights. Depending on which facility you are in, there are basketball courts or volleyball courts, videogames and outdoor games like cornhole or pool. We also have off-site outings if you want a change of scenery. You will be in a safe environment, working on yourself while getting the rest you need to fully recover.

Drug Rehab in Pittsburgh

At Resurgence, our drug rehab program treats you as a whole person, rather than just as an addiction or another problem to be solved. Through medical and psychological screening and an in-depth interview we will get to know you as a person, evaluate your level of addiction, and work with you to help you figure out the best treatments to help you get sober, treat underlying conditions, and get to the root of your addiction, while also helping you meet your goals for the future.

You will move into our drug rehab facility for 30 to 90 days, so you will be able to focus on your recovery without distraction and have the time to see your life from a new perspective. The days are structured, and you will spend your time in therapy and learning recovery skills that will help you long-term. We will also use a dual diagnosis treatment if you have any co-occurring conditions that need simultaneous treatment. In the evenings you will be invited to join us in movie nights or to play games, or you can spend quiet time alone to reflect on your day. We want each of our clients to get the rest they need, so we promote a relaxing and comfortable environment.

Once your inpatient rehab program ends, we will work with you to create an aftercare program that will best benefit you and help you meet your long-term sobriety goals.

How Much Does Rehab Cost?

The cost of rehab is different for everybody, as we customize our programs to each of our patients. We will work it all out with you beforehand so there are no surprises, and we can do a payment plan if necessary. We can create a program together that will fit your budget and get you the help you need. We also work with most PHP insurance providers. Contact us today to find out more about specific costs. We want to help you, and we believe that rehab should be available to anybody who needs it.

How Long Is Detox?

The timeline of every person’s detox varies, depending on factors like your physical and mental health when you are entering detox, what drug you are detoxing from and your level of addiction, your genetics and metabolism, and whether you were taking more than one drug at a time or mixing it with alcohol. Your level of motivation can be a factor, as well as your history with drug use and relapsing.

Your withdrawal symptoms will start out mild, but will gradually escalate until they hit their peak somewhere around 72 hours after your last use. This peak is when things can become dangerous for your health and when medical intervention may be most necessary. After you hit your peak, you will begin to feel better and become more stabilized every day until you are ready to move on into a rehab program.

How Long Is Rehab?

At Resurgence, our rehab programs are flexible and designed to fit each patient’s specific needs and goals, so the timeline can vary. We offer 30-, 60-, and 90-day programs, with a 30-day minimum recommended stay in inpatient care. Residential rehab Pittsburgh with Resurgence will keep you safe in a sober and community-oriented environment as you work on yourself and find the time to reflect and relax. One of the purposes of inpatient rehab is to get patients away from the people, places, and issues that cause stress and pressure in their lives, or that may trigger drug and alcohol use. You will have time away to think and see your life from a new perspective, while attending therapy, educational courses and groups, and taking care of your body with exercise and nutrition. We encourage each of our patients to remain in inpatient care for as long as they need, as a longer stay will decrease the chance of relapse. When you are ready, you can move on to outpatient and aftercare programs, so you will never be left alone in your recovery.

30 Day Rehab (Short Term)

30 days is the minimum recommended stay in residential rehab. This will be time well spent in therapy, counselling and groups, and other programs that will help you work on yourself, gaining recovery skills that will last you a lifetime. Your days are highly structured in rehab, so you will be moving forward a little bit every day and making the most of your short time with us. One month of residential rehab is enough to provide perspective on your life, and allow your body to rest and recover as you reflect upon your life and work toward your future.

Long Term Rehab (60-90 Days)

Long-term rehab is a 60- or 90-day program that is recommended for anybody who feels they need extra time in inpatient care, especially those who have a history of relapsing or those who are resistant to treatment. It is also most beneficial for people with co-occurring conditions in dual diagnosis treatment to stay in inpatient care long-term. You will have medical supervision, with exercise and nutritional counselling, and you will be surrounded by peers in a sober, community-oriented place, so you can get your body healthy and meet new, sober friends while working to get to the root of your addiction.

Does My Insurance Have Coverage For Rehab?

Because each insurance provider is different, you should speak with your health care provider about which specific treatments and medications are covered before you begin treatment so there are no surprises, but under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), addiction and mental health care are considered essential health services.

Additional Therapies & Addiction Treatments Available:

Resurgence Behavioral Health has a variety of treatments and therapies available to residents of Pittsburgh, including:

Couples Rehab

Couples who use drugs or drink together regularly may begin to feel their relationship is slipping away from them, and an emotional distance is growing. Even the most dedicated partners will eventually find their relationship is in decline once addiction becomes involved.

You and your partner may find you are fighting more about money, drug use, or partying. One or both of you might be neglecting important responsibilities like childcare or housework, or even missing work or school to use drugs or drink, or because of a hangover. Domestic violence and other blurred boundaries like financial exploitation of others or sneaky behavior and lying may begin to occur. You might also begin enabling one another’s addictions by covering for them, interfering with work or law enforcement on their behalf, or prioritizing the addiction over other people or important events.

You might begin feeling like you need to use drugs or drink to express your love or talk about your relationship. If you feel like you miss your partner even when they are right beside you, or that you don’t enjoy spending time with them anymore unless you are drunk or high, it might be time to look into couples’ rehab.

At Resurgence Behavioral Health, couples can join rehab together to get sober and work on the relationship as a team. You will both detox and have individual programs that include therapy, counselling, education and more, and on top of that you will receive couples’ counselling, so you can work on issues and build your relationship up again.

Couples’ therapy can prevent further damage to your relationship and help you work on communication and self-control, and you will learn about your own and your partner’s triggers, codependency issues and enabling behaviors. You will find new, sober ways to spend time together and become each other’s built-in support system.

If you and your partner agree that now is the time to start over again, get sober, and work on your relationship together, contact us today and we will help you gain a happier and healthier relationship, while you stop drinking and using drugs and enter recovery for the long-term.

Pet Friendly Rehab

Resurgence is pet friendly, so you can bring your animal friend along with you for companionship and emotional support. You won’t have to stress over who will watch them as they are by your side, and having a pet around actually has been proven to increase your sense of self worth, physical activity, and lower your heart rate and blood pressure. With all these benefits, we are happy to have your pet join us in residential rehab.

MAT

MAT is Medically Assisted Treatment, a program that will help you get through detox as comfortably and safely as possible. At Resurgence we can provide FDA-approved, prescription doses of medications to help combat drug cravings, help you rest, and help deal with any co-occurring conditions you may have through a dual diagnosis program. MAT is safe and effective and will not create a new addiction.

Because MAT is an integrated treatment that uses a “whole patient” approach, we will introduce therapy at this time to help you deal with any unwanted emotions or trauma that may come up as the drugs and alcohol leave your system.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a common therapeutic model for treating addiction. It treats underlying behaviors and emotional disorders, and modifies behavior and thought patterns that lead to substance use and relapse. You will learn to stop destructive behavior and find the reason behind substance dependency, learning alternate ways to deal with problems. The brain is retrained to avoid negative behaviors. Cognitive behavioral therapy is useful to treat co-occurring disorders, because it treats a variety of mental disorders like trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as addiction.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of CBT that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of substance abuse, helping you understand social and emotional reasons behind your substance abuse, replacing negative emotions and behaviors with positive ones, identifying self-destructive behaviors, and then working to change the way you respond. DBT integrates mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

REBT focuses on your perspective on an issue, reasoning that most situations are not inherently good or bad, it just depends on how you think about them. For addiction, REBT teaches patients how to live a more fulfilling life without drugs or alcohol. It will challenge you about your own thoughts and responses, and your emotions related to addiction with logical, positive responses. REBT can be used in dual diagnosis addiction treatment, because it addresses underlying issues and replaces harmful behaviors with healthy coping techniques.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

At Resurgence we use a dual diagnosis treatment when addiction and mental illness are both present in a patient. It is common for both to occur in the same individual because substances can sometimes exacerbate pre-existing mental health conditions, and conversely, people with mental health issues may begin using drugs or alcohol to cope with their psychological symptoms.

We will use a combination of mental health and addiction therapy and other programming to get to the root of these issues at the same time and in the same place by the same clinical team, so that you will be able to move on with your life with a better grasp on your mental health and a lower chance of relapsing.

EMDR

EMDR uses eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones while reconnecting you with past traumatic images or thoughts in a safe environment, so you can achieve dual awareness. This will help your brain reprocess the incidents so that they no longer cause psychological distress. EMDR therapy has been endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.

Relapse Prevention

Leaving rehab does not mean you are 100% over your addiction. Once you face the same people, places and triggers that were there when you left, you may be tempted to give up, or go back to your old ways. Remaining connected to a supportive sober community is essential for relapse prevention after rehab.

You can join our Partial Hospitalization Program, living outside the facility but commuting back for full days of programming, treating rehab as your full-time job, with complete access to our facilities and amenities. For a more flexible option, or if you feel you want to return to work or school in Pittsburgh, you can join our Intensive Outpatient Program. This is therapy and groups, and a continued connection with psychological and medical care if needed, that can all be scheduled around your life so you can take care of your responsibilities at home while remaining fully supported, working on your sobriety.

We also provide referrals to sober living homes for our patients who need a more structured place to live than they have at home, with strict rules around drugs and alcohol that must be followed. We will help you choose a home that is suitable to your needs. Resurgence Behavioral Health also has a thriving alumni community, and they will welcome you with open arms to any of their gatherings or meetings. You can meet people who will provide support, and even contact them online. With all these resources beyond detox and inpatient care, you will never have to be alone in your recovery.

Life Skills Training

At Resurgence Behavioral Health, we aim to provide the tools you will need to traverse the challenges of life, without the use of drugs or alcohol. These are a set of skills that can help you handle problems, make decisions, communicate, and take responsibility, including self-management, sticking to a schedule, cleaning, and drug resistance. Life skills are important for learning to maintain a normal routine, live independently, and taking care of your body with food, exercise, and hygiene.

Vocational Training

Addiction can become a barrier to employment, and at Resurgence, we work with those needing vocational skills to enter the workforce. Many addicts have never been in the workforce, and have not held a regular job before, because employment has not been a goal or focus in their life. Working provides self-sufficiency, and is an important step to living a healthy, independent, sober life. Employment provides opportunities to meet new friends, and develop your social skills while establishing financial independence, and giving structure to each day.

Group Therapy

At Resurgence Pittsburgh there are many different processes, educational and peer group therapies you can join. This is where several patients will gather under the supervision of one or more therapists and discuss a theme or topic together.

Groups are beneficial because they:

  • Can act as a sounding board or help you brainstorm solutions to a problem
  • Give you the opportunity to express your opinions, receive criticism and try out social skills
  • Provide a network of peers who can help hold you accountable
  • Help you put your issues into perspective and see how others handle similar problems, gaining new coping strategies
  • Let you know you are not alone in your struggles
  • Give you the opportunity to share your experiences and knowledge to help others

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is the idea that perception determines behavior. You will have an ‘experience’, using activities like building something, role-playing, doing art, or even animal care, and your therapist will walk you through releasing emotions like anger, hurt, or shame as you talk about the past. Because this therapy occurs in a completely different context, your emotional responses can more easily be reframed.

Addiction Treatment that
Just Works

Individualized treatment programs delivered in a comfortable, relaxed setting promote healing in your recovery journey.

One on One Therapy

Individual, one-on-one therapy is also known as psychotherapy or talk therapy, and it is when you and your therapist meet to talk about issues, help you develop healthy coping skills, and identify underlying causes of issues. Your therapist can provide strategies for stopping unwanted behaviors and thoughts and help you deal with stress, difficult situations, and improve your overall quality of life.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is counselling for two or more family members who want to improve their relationship, get through a stressful time, and deepen their connection. You can work on issues like feelings of guilt, problematic behaviors, trust issues, and gaining a better understanding of one another. In the case of addiction, family therapy can help family members learn how to better support their loved one who is in recovery, and how to provide a safe, supportive and sober-friendly environment for them at home.

Trauma Informed Therapy (After PTSD)

Trauma-informed therapy is an important methodology used at Resurgence Behavioral Health. All of our staff members are trained to recognize the signs of trauma, and to avoid re-traumatization. We believe in receiving informed consent from our patients, and we promote an atmosphere of open communication and collaboration. You are going to get the most out of your treatment if you trust us, so we will work to build and maintain a trusting relationship with you. We will not make you do anything you don’t want to do, and we will ensure you feel safe and listened-to throughout your time with us.

Physical Fitness

On top of improving your physical and mental health, regular exercise can reduce the risk of relapse for people in recovery. Going to the gym, joining a sports team or going out with a running club adds structure to the day. Exercising and sports can distract you from cravings, and  you can meet other people interested in fitness, forming positive social connections. When used in combination with therapy, medication, and other treatments, exercise can play a part in creating a healthy, happy, sober lifestyle.

Off Site Activities

A change of scenery can do a person some good, and that is why we offer off-site outings in Pittsburgh to our clients. Depending on which rehab location you check into, we may take you on a hike, to a beach, bowling, surfing, or horseback riding. You will see local nature spots and attractions, have new experiences, and there is the option to attend church on Sundays.
