4 Types of Alcoholics

Common Alcoholic Personality Traits
Everyone is different, of course, but there are personality types. For instance, some people are introverts and others are extroverts. It appears that there are also different alcoholic types too. Different types of alcoholics in the big book of personality types have been distilled down to four. These four types of alcoholics generally reflect alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction in different ways. Alcohol’s effects on people can be diverse, but they often point to the symptoms of alcohol addiction when the individual’s drinking habits include binge drinking, mood swings, inability to stop drinking, and development of withdrawal symptoms when they do try to stop drinking.

Are there types of alcoholics? It does appear that there are different types of alcoholics. Many people addicted to alcohol exhibit traits that resemble well-known characters from both fiction and real life. Substance abuse takes many forms. Alcohol addiction is particularly powerful as relapse rates attest. An alcohol-dependent person may encompass the personality traits of the following:
Mr. Hydes
The fictional story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic, but perhaps its author, Robert Louis Stevenson, had seen the like in real life. Some types of alcoholics are Mr. Hydes; that is, they become mean after drinking excessively or hostile.
Mary Poppins
The Mary Poppins type of alcoholic is usually someone who is outgoing but becomes even more cheerful when under the influence of alcohol. In short, they seem quite happy and might often be dubbed as the life of a party or the star of happy hours.
Nutty Professors
A nutty professor type of drinker is someone who becomes more gregarious when drinking. When not drinking, these types are often more introverted; however, they lose their reserve when drinking alcohol and become less inhibited. They might engage in behaviors that they normally wouldn’t when not drinking.
Hemingways
Hemingways are alcoholics who drink excessively but they seem no different to others whether they’re drinking or not. Although they seem to “hold” their alcohol well, they’re alcoholics nevertheless and are subject to the same health deterioration risks that any other alcoholic is.
