WHAT IS OUTPATIENT DRUG TREATMENT?

While residential and inpatient treatment programs require patients to reside at a facility during therapy, outpatient treatment is much more flexible. It allows the patient to come to the center for treatment and then leave after finishing so they can attend to other responsibilities like work or school. Depending on their circumstances, they also reside in their home or a halfway home. Outpatient addiction programs are ideal for patients needing to undergo treatment but well enough to live outside the facility. All of the staff and nurses at resurgence are phenomenal. They helped me a lot and gave me hope at my lowest.—the two different times I came to both of their locations. This was my first time in treatment and I was pretty scared but muse and staff have been incredible. Steve(o) and corrina have been my favorite! Make sure to go on the outings with Steve(o) he’s amazing! Corrina spoiled me and is easy to talk to! All the staff is amazing if I’m being honest! I was totally scared of this unknown experience to a new state to take care of my health situation but the ppl and place was totally inviting and caring and helped me with my first steps to my new beginning to find myself. This is my first experience with a rehabilitation center and I couldn't have gone to a better place or asked for a better staff or facility! I've truly found my home away from home here! Nikki, Lauren, Mike, and Cortez, just to name a few have truly made a significant impact in my life and of course made my recovery process possible...without these people I would not be clean and sober today. WHAT ARE THE THREE CLASSIFICATIONS OF OUTPATIENT TREATMENT?

The three primary programs involving outpatient drug rehab involve intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), and traditional outpatient therapy. Each program has its own benefits and treatment methods catering to patients at different points in their recovery journey.

1. As the name indicates, IOPs are more structured and intensive than standard outpatient care. They typically involve three to five sessions per week, each lasting two to four hours. They generally offer individual therapy, group therapy, and holistic therapy sessions.
2. PHPs are designed to help patients still facing numerous challenges in their addiction recovery who require a stable living environment. This kind of program generally involves five to seven days of treatment per week for four to six hours each. Treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy, medication management, and coping skills training.
3. Standard outpatient treatment is the least intensive form of treatment, with one or two weekly therapy sessions. Best suited for patients with mild to moderate symptoms who can manage daily life, treatment involves a combination of individual counseling and group therapy.

Day Programs

Outpatient day programs, also known as PHPs, provide the most intensive level of outpatient addiction treatment and support. Clients attend these programs for a minimum of six hours for five to seven days each week until the program’s completion. Day programs feature individual therapy sessions, group and family therapy, and medical/dual diagnosis treatment if needed.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive outpatient (IOP) addiction treatment programs feature a robust level of support for clients without requiring daylong attendance at rehab. This means that clients enjoy greater flexibility during therapy in order to continue working, attending school, or caring for their family. IOPs are ideal for clients transitioning from inpatient programs or day programs back to their everyday lives.

Continuing Care

The longer a person spends in formal addiction treatment, the less likely they are to experience a relapse. Continuing care programs provide ongoing support for clients who have completed inpatient drug rehab or outpatient therapy. Continuing care, like many aftercare therapies, features weekly treatment sessions that provide long-term drug rehab support that’s tailored to client’s needs and circumstances.
