Begin Your Road to Recovery: Learn About Our Alcohol Detox Program

Every person that has ever overcome an addiction to alcohol will tell you that they had to come to a place in their life where they recognize that they had a condition that made their lives unmanageable. Also, they will tell you that they never consumed their first drink with the intention that they were going to develop an addiction. In fact, most addictions begin quite innocently. Some people take their first drink at a party or on a dare from friends at a young age. However, over time and if gone unchecked an addiction can completely consume a person. When you make the choice to take back control over your life, the Resurgence Behavioral Health team is here for you. A member of our intake team is available around the clock to help you start the process of putting together a recovery program. The first step in this process is determining whether or not you need to first work through alcohol detox in Buffalo. Our alcohol detox programs will give you the opportunity to start fresh and truly focus on the steps that you need to take to heal from your addiction.

Signs of Alcohol Addiction

Do you have concerns that your friend or loved one may have an addiction? Is it possible that you, yourself might be suffering from an addiction to alcohol? Here are some signs that you may be suffering from this disease:

  • Difficulties with money
  • Problems with your job
  • Issues maintaining personal relationships
  • Cravings for alcohol

There are many more signs that may indicate that you’re suffering from an addiction to alcohol. Our team can speak with you more if you feel that you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of addiction that are not listed above.

First Step to Alcohol Addiction Recovery

The first step in any recovery process is admitting that you have a problem. This is often the most challenging step for any person due in large part to the fact that their addiction has taken over their life. However, there is often an event that happens in a person’s life that finally triggers that person into the realization that if they want to have any kind of life and not die from their addiction then it’s critical that they take steps toward tackling their addiction.

Why Do I Need to Detox from Alcohol Before Rehab?

Any person that has worked through a rehab program will tell you that when they were still impacted by the effect of alcohol, they were in no position to actively and meaningfully participate in their own recovery. Even though it’s wonderful that you have made the decision to no longer take a drink, it doesn’t mean that you won’t experience some type of physical or psychological impact from that decision.

The reason why you need to detox before you go to rehab is that detox will give you the opportunity to remove the influence of alcohol from your life which is critical when you’re ready to conquer your addiction. Only once you get your mind back to a better place will you be able to truly commit to a recovery program.

Alcohol Withdrawal Timeline

Most Buffalo residents that come to our alcohol detox will need to spend approximately seven days in this type of program. It’s critical that you reach out to us as soon as you have made the decision to tackle your addiction because of how quickly detox symptoms can set in. In fact, it’s possible that you may experience symptoms of withdrawal in as little as a few hours after the time that you take your last drink which could put you in a precarious position.

What is Medical Alcohol Detox

Medical alcohol detox utilizes certain medications that can help to make the detox process less stressful and less traumatic. Oftentimes, many people put off tackling their addiction simply because they are afraid of the detox process. We do everything that we can to alleviate your concerns so that you can make the most out of your time with us.

Why is Medical Detox Necessary?

Medical detox is necessary if your addiction is severe enough to trigger withdrawal symptoms. This is usually something that we can determine based on your initial intake. This is one of the reasons why we encourage you to be upfront and honest with us during your first phone call with Resurgence. While we understand that talking about this aspect of your life could cause you to feel uncomfortable or even embarrassed, coming to terms with the extent of your addiction is something that will only help you overall.

Alcohol Detox

When looking for the right alcohol detox, whether in Buffalo or in any of our facilities across the nation, it’s critical that you feel comfortable and at ease with the facility as well as the team that you’re going to be working with. Any type of ill feelings will only set a negative tone for your entire recovery journey. Something that also makes our detox alcohol programs unique is the fact that you will be able to immediately transition into a long-term treatment program once you are done with detox. This is something that we will speak with you about once you near the end of your time in alcohol detox.

What Happens After Detox?

Once you complete alcohol detox, you will be in a much better position to begin to work through the different aspects of what you need to do to maintain your sobriety for the rest of your life. The next big decision that you will need to make is whether you are going to work through an inpatient program or one of our outpatient programs. An outpatient program is the best option for a client that may be working or going to school. For instance, if you are working or going to school part-time, we recommend that you consider committing to our intensive outpatient program whereas if you’re working or going to school full time, then our general outpatient program may be better suited to your needs.

If you have completed one of our alcohol detox programs, however, we will always recommend that you consider coming to our inpatient rehab. The reason for this is that both treatment options provide you with the same level of continuous care which is something that is important in the early stages of your addiction. Similar to outpatient programs, inpatient programs can last anywhere between 30 and 90-days. Also, if you make the choice to begin in a 30-day program, you can always extend your plan at any point simply by speaking to a member of our team.

The main approach that we take when it comes to determining the root cause of your addiction is by utilizing different forms of therapy. Talking through the events that may have caused you pain in your life will help you to understand that they no longer have to control your life. A type of therapy that you will experience in both our outpatient program or our inpatient program is group therapy. During group therapy, you will have the chance to discuss the events that may have impacted your addiction. These sessions are guided by our addiction therapists and are done so in such a way where you will be able to not only share your thoughts and experiences but also listen to the experiences of other people in your group. Over time, you may come to find that you have a lot in common with other clients and begin to grow and develop your support system of support. This is something that can become invaluable as you continue to grow in your sobriety.

What is Alcohol Detox at Resurgence Behavioral Health Like?

One of the most popular questions that we receive from clients that are interested in coming to our alcohol detox revolves around what they will experience when they come to Resurgence for treatment. The reality is that your experience will likely be very different from that of another client and that is based on a number of factors. For example, if your addiction is severe, then it’s possible that you may feel more uncomfortable during your time in one of our alcohol detox programs in comparison to another client.
