Dual Diagnosis Treatment San Diego

Dual Diagnosis Treatment San Diego Resurgence Behavioral Health

San Diego Dual Diagnosis Treatment Programs

For any person, recalling sad or painful memories in your life is difficult. Oftentimes, it’s something that we try not to think about simply because we don’t want to get pulled into the swirling spiral of negative thinking. However, think for a moment how you would feel if thinking like this consumed your waking thoughts and you were desperate for a way to stop this type of thinking. Unfortunately, there are many people that simply don’t know where to turn when they are feeling this way. They may feel embarrassed as a result of these emotions or reactions which is why they end up turning to drugs or alcohol as a way to try to manage. This, however, could take one problem and make it exponentially worse. When you have both an addiction as well as a mental health disorder, you’re classified as having a co-occurring disorder. At Resurgence Behavioral Health, we specialize in helping people that have this type of disorder and provide them with the dual diagnosis treatment resources and the guidance that they need to work through these struggles in their life.

Addiction Treatment that
Just Works

Individualized treatment programs delivered in a comfortable, relaxed setting promote healing in your recovery journey.

What is a Dual Diagnosis?

A dual diagnosis is categorized as having both an addiction as well as a mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. There are several other mental health issues that could result in a dual diagnosis. Sadly, there are many people who feel embarrassed as a result of having this condition which is one of the reasons why they either don’t get help for it or they put off doing so. At Resurgence, we focus on removing the terrible stigma that is often associated with this type of diagnosis. Our goal is to guide you through the process of managing both your addiction as well as your mental health so that you can live a life that is overall healthier and more successful.

How Do You Know If You Have a Dual Diagnosis?

At Resurgence, we assist clients that come from all walks of life. There are many clients who are actively aware of the fact that they have a mental illness, however, it’s something that either isn’t being treated correctly or it’s not being treated at all. If you have never been diagnosed with a mental health illness before, here are some examples of signs that you may be struggling with one and would benefit from our dual diagnosis treatment for San Diego residents:

  • Erratic behavior
  • Problems maintaining certain responsibilities
  • Issues with relationships with friends or family members
  • Using your substance of choice more during the time that you feel you’re psychologically struggling

When you come to Resurgence, we will also take your past medical history into account when making this type of diagnosis. We encourage you to speak openly to us about struggles that you had not because we are trying to make you feel embarrassed but because we want to do everything that we can to truly help you.

Mental Health and Addiction

The focus of your time in treatment will not only be overcome your addiction but learning what steps you need to take going forward which will help you to avoid falling back into your addictive ways in the future. This may include taking a certain amount of medication for a period of time or being able to actively identify when you are going through a low moment. Something else that we always recommend to our clients is finding 12 step meetings that are local to your area and attending at least one on a regular basis. Doing so will help you to understand that there are other people that are in your area that may be struggling with the same things as you. Similar to group therapy, this will help you begin to develop your own system of support that you can lean on in your moments of struggle and vice versa.

Top Dual Diagnosis Treatment in San Diego

During your time in dual diagnosis treatment, you will take part in a variety of therapies. This will help you to develop a better understanding of not only yourself but also your addiction and different mental health issues that you may be struggling with. Types of therapy that you will participate in when you come to Resurgence include:

Individual therapy

Individual therapy is done on a one-on-one basis for every client. During these sessions, you will be able to speak personally with an addiction therapist about different aspects of your life that may have triggered your addiction. While we always encourage you to speak about these events at group therapy when possible, we understand that there may be certain details that are just too painful to talk about in a group setting. Also, during individual therapy, you will have the chance to assess your treatment plan and make any adjustments that may be needed.

Family therapy

Sadly, it’s possible for the struggles associated with a co-occurring disorder to trickle over to impacting every member of that person’s family. This can result in strained relationships and family turmoil. Family therapy can help you and your loved ones to take the initial steps toward healing as a family. This type of counseling isn’t considered until you get to a more stable stage in your recovery, however, it is something that can be monumentally helpful when it comes to helping you come to a better place in your relationship with your family members.

Group therapy

One of the reasons why a person may get so deep in their addiction is because they feel as though they can’t find another person in the world to speak to about it. Group therapy provides you with the opportunity to begin to make connections with other people that are working through their own treatment program. We always encourage clients to share as much as possible but to also listen to what other clients are saying during these sessions as these could be great learning and healing experiences.

Options for Dual Diagnosis Treatment

It’s important for us to note that before you can commit to dual diagnosis treatment, it’s critical that you begin this process with a sober mind and body. Unfortunately, if you have a severe addiction and depending on your substance of choice, it’s possible that you may experience withdrawal. When you initially reach out to Resurgence, we will take you through a comprehensive intake process so that we can determine whether or not you need to first work through detox.

The detox process is something that can be potentially deadly and leave a person unable to care for themselves during a period of time.

One of the reasons why we are a go-to facility for dual diagnosis treatment for San Diego residents is because we recognize that every client that comes to Resurgence needs and deserves an individualized level of care. When you trust our addiction team with your recovery, that is exactly what you will find. We will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan that works best for you. Some examples of recovery programs that we offer at Resurgence include:

Inpatient program

We developed our inpatient program specifically for clients that are looking to change the environment around them while they focus on what they need to do to tackle their addiction. It’s a great option for a person that may live in a situation that doesn’t support sobriety or with people that don’t understand that addiction is a disease. At Resurgence, we go out of our way to make you feel as though you’re at a home away from home from the moment that you walk through our doors.

Outpatient programs

As addiction experts, we realize that every client that reaches out to us for help may not have the flexibility to commit to our inpatient program. If you have a job, you’re going to school or you have other personal commitments that you simply cannot put on hold, then we will recommend that you take advantage of one of our outpatient programs. Our intensive outpatient program and our general outpatient program will provide you with the structure that you need to conquer your addiction but give you the flexibility that you need to see to these other responsibilities in your life. The main difference between these two options is the level of therapeutic hourly commitment that you put in each week. Our intensive outpatient program requires a higher number of hourly commitments per week in comparison to our general outpatient program.
