Alcohol Detox in Los Angeles

Alcohol can affect people of any gender, age, or background. The first step of any alcohol rehab program is to stop drinking and go through a detox period.  At Resurgence, we know that everyone has different needs when treating alcohol addiction, and we will customize an alcohol detox and rehabilitation plan to you and your needs, treating the symptoms of withdrawal while working to get to the root of your addiction.

The Importance of Alcohol Detox Before Rehab

Detoxing with us at Resurgence is important for a few key reasons:

  • It is safer to detox under professional medical supervision offered in a detox center than trying to do it at home
  • You will be able to maintain your focus while in rehab if you have all the drugs out of your system and are not experiencing withdrawal symptoms
  • Our medical detox program addresses mental health and other co-occurring issues as well so you can be stable and ready to take in new information during rehab

What is Alcohol Detox Like?

When you are in alcohol detox at Resurgence, we will strongly recommend our Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. You will check into our detox center, and stay there in a comfortable bed, with 24-hour medical supervision and staff available to you whenever you need them. We will provide prescription doses of FDA-approved medications that will ensure you won’t experience the worst of the withdrawal symptoms, and we will ensure you stay safe, comfortable, and healthy as the alcohol leaves your system.

How Long is Alcohol Detox?

Everybody’s experience with detoxing is different, and the timeline can depend on factors like how long you have been drinking, how heavily you have been drinking, your level of addiction, your genetics, whether you have a history with alcohol and relapsing, and your physical and mental health at the time of detox.

In general terms, you will be in detox for around five days to a week. Your withdrawal symptoms will begin within hours of discontinuing drinking, and your acute withdrawal symptoms will last 3-4 days, with the worst and most dangerous symptoms occurring between 48 to 72 hours after your last drink. After that peak, you will begin to feel a little better every day.

What Happens After Alcohol Detox: Alcohol Rehab

After alcohol detox, you will move directly into our inpatient rehab program, where you will live in our facility for 30-90 days, and attend full days of programming such as therapy, counseling, educational programs and attend life-skills training and process groups. This is the time where you will work on yourself, learn new recovery skills, and work towards your goals. You will gain a new perspective on life, and we will help you get to the root of your addiction. If you have a dual diagnosis, we will help you deal with mental health issues at the same time as your addiction.

The Difference Between Inpatient and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

Inpatient rehab is just as it sounds. You will live inside our facility as a patient, your days will be structured with programs scheduled by our staff, and all of your therapy, recreation time, and resting will happen within the walls of the inpatient buildings. (With the exception of our off-site outings.)

Outpatient rehab is where you live outside of our facility, either at home or in a sober living home, and your commute to our facility for your therapy, counseling, medical appointments, and psychiatric care. At Resurgence, we offer different levels of outpatient care, from our structured Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) day program to our more flexible Intensive Outpatient Program, where we help you schedule your appointments around your work, school, or other responsibilities.
