What is Medical Detox?

Medical detox is the process of introducing certain forms of medications that will help you to better manage and deal with your withdrawal symptoms. It’s important to remember that withdrawal symptoms can be severe. Although there is no guarantee that you will not experience some form of withdrawal during alcohol detox, we can promise that medical detox is the best way for our Tucson, AZ patients to make the process less traumatic.

Why is Medical Detox Necessary for Alcohol Withdrawal

At Resurgence’s alcohol detox center, we believe that medical detox is a necessary part of the overall recovery process. The reason for this is that detox can bring with it certain physical and psychological challenges that you may not be able to handle on your own. For example, as you begin to go through withdrawal, it’s possible that you may not be able to care for yourself for a number of hours or even days. This puts you in a precarious position which could be potentially dangerous depending on the severity of your withdrawal symptoms. When you make the choice to seek professional alcohol detox, you have the peace of mind of knowing that you will have dedicated members of our clinical staff closely monitoring your symptoms to ensure that no harm comes to you.

While it may seem appealing to try to have a friend or family member care for you during detox, it’s important to remember that your loved ones are not specifically trained in this field. Your safest bet is to travel to a professional medical detox for alcohol and receive the comprehensive level of care that you need during this stage of treatment.

What to Expect at Medical Alcohol Detox

It’s important to know that the detox process will have its challenges at times. There is no way to predict exactly what symptoms you may experience during this initial week which is part of what makes the process scary to many people and why they tend to keep putting off treatment. However, at Resurgence, we do everything that we can to provide you with the type of environment that you need as you begin to make these changes in your life. You will have a warm and comfortable bed to sleep in every night and ample time to relax and recover as you make plans to begin this new stage in your life.

What is the Next Step After Alcohol Detox?

Once you complete your alcohol detox program, it’s possible that you may feel like a completely new person. While it’s wonderful to feel this way, it’s important to remember that detox is only the first step in your recovery program. The next step is to work with our team to develop a plan for long-term treatment in the form of rehabilitation. Toward the end of your time in detox, we will begin to speak with you more about your options for rehab and help you to make the transition into the next phase of your recovery.

Alcohol Rehab Tucson, AZ: Levels of Care

As addiction experts, we know that it’s impossible to take a one-size-fits-all to addiction recovery which is why we offer different levels of care to each one of our clients that come to our facility. From the moment that you reach out to us, we will begin to collaborate with you to determine the best treatment options for you and help you develop your own recovery plan. Here are some examples of the levels of care that we can help you to personalize:

Inpatient program: We always recommend that you strongly consider working through our inpatient program if you need to go through alcohol detox because this step will provide you with the same continuous level of care that you received during detox. You will live on our campus with us for the next 30, 60, or 90-days and learn more about the disease of addiction as well as the root causes of it when it comes to your life. From there, you will learn what you need to do to maintain your sobriety once you are done with treatment. Keep in mind that clients that complete our inpatient program have the opportunity to continue treatment through one of our outpatient programs.

Outpatient program: Our outpatient programs are tailored for clients that may need to work or go to school. It may be difficult if not impossible for a client to commit to an inpatient program when they have these types of responsibilities. Our general outpatient program or our intensive outpatient program can make your recovery easier in the sense that these plans are more flexible which means that they can be more tailored to your current work or school schedule. Since they are flexible, if you have a change in your schedule, be sure to let us know so that we can work with you to adjust your treatment plan so that you can always receive the care that you need.

What Happens After Alcohol Rehab?

It’s important to remember that once you complete your time in alcohol detox and rehab, there is still work that you will need to do for the rest of your life in order to maintain your sobriety. For example, we will strongly recommend that you take advantage of enrolling in our aftercare program which will give you the opportunity to maintain the connections that you made through our facility during your time in treatment. This program will also give you the chance to make new connections through our regular get-togethers.

Consistently surrounding yourself with individuals who have the same goals as you when it comes to treatment and recovery is critical which is why a good rule of thumb is to locate and attend 12-step meetings in your area. You will notice that a 12-step meeting is similar to group therapy in many ways because it gives attendees the opportunity to listen and share about different topics that are related to recovery, sobriety, and addiction. Taking this step and making the commitment to attend 12-step meetings throughout your weeks gives you a wonderful chance to grow your system of support close to home which can provide you with a great sense of relief on the days that you are struggling to maintain your sobriety or you feel emotionally spent.
