Alcohol Detox for Oklahoma City Residents
Medical Detox from Alcohol: What to Know
Alcohol rehab in Oklahoma is the process your body goes through after you take your last drink and decide to quit for good. This is a big decision that should not be taken lightly, nor should you try to do it alone, as alcohol is a difficult substance to detox from, as the withdrawal symptoms of alcohol detox can shift suddenly from uncomfortable to dangerous. If you or a loved one have an alcohol addiction and are considering quitting alcohol, it is in your best interest to enter our alcohol detox facility with professional, medical supervision.
Addiction Treatment that
Just Works
Individualized treatment programs delivered in a comfortable, relaxed setting promote healing in your recovery journey.
Medical detox is an important method for quitting drugs, especially those with severe withdrawal symptoms like benzodiazepines, alcohol, meth, and opiates. At Resurgence, we offer a medically assisted treatment program that combines behavioral health, dual diagnosis, and clinical care for a whole-patient-centered treatment, which will set the foundation for long-term, sustained recovery.
Medically assisted treatment (MAT) is an integrated treatment, created to treat the biological and the behavioral components of addiction while assisting you in overcoming your physical withdrawal symptoms.
What to Look for in Alcohol Detox Center
If you are looking for a center for alcohol detox, some key elements you may want to look for include:
- Do they provide a medical detox program?
- Are their treatments customized to suit each individual patient?
- Do they have 24-hour clinical supervision during detox?
- Do they have certified addictionologists or addictions specialists on staff?
- Is there a continuation of care, with rehab directly after detox?
- Do they offer outpatient programs and other aftercare options for long-term support?
- Do they offer dual diagnosis treatment options?
At Resurgence, we offer all these elements and more for drug and alcohol detox for many Oklahoma City residents. When you enter our detox and rehabilitation program, you can expect customized treatments along a continuum of care that will best suit your preferences, needs, and future goals. We have a medically assisted treatment (MAT) program for medical detox that will ensure you remain safe as you detox, with 24-hour clinical staff onsite and dual diagnosis treatments, supervised by our head nurse, an addictions RN.
Dangers of Detoxing from Alcohol at Home
The problem with detoxing from alcohol at home is that your withdrawal symptoms can easily get out of hand and become dangerous or even life-threatening.
The milder symptoms of alcohol withdrawal include:
- Irritability
- Anxiety and mood swings
- Tremors
- Uncontrollable sweating
- Confusion or brain fog
- Insomnia and nightmares
- Headache
- Increased heart rate
These symptoms can become extremely uncomfortable, tempting even the strongest-willed person to relapse to make them go away. At Resurgence, our medical detox program can assist with these mild withdrawal symptoms by providing medications to help you rest and decrease cravings and pain.
The true danger of alcohol withdrawal is a condition called delirium tremens (also known as “the DTs”). Symptoms of delirium tremens include:
- Confusion and agitation
- High fever – when untreated, may result in dehydration and may cause brain damage in severe cases
- Visual hallucinations – seeing things that are not there
- Audio hallucinations – hearing things that are not there
- Tactile hallucinations – feeling like something is crawling under your skin or touching you when nothing is there
- Seizures –seizures happen in approximately 10% to 15% of people who try to detox on their own
- Death – if left untreated, the DTs have a mortality rate of 5% to 15%
People who have tried detoxing from alcohol before, have a greater risk of developing delirium tremens, as does anybody who has been drinking for a long period of time, drinking heavily or binge drinking, or if other health issues are present in the patient at the time of detox.
Enrolling in Resurgence’s medical detox program will give you peace of mind as you enter our detox facility because we have a full medical team working 24 hours a day to ensure severe withdrawal symptoms do not happen to you. We will keep you safe, comfortable, and hydrated as you detox.
What is Medical Detox?
Medical detox is supervised detoxification from alcohol or drugs, in which medications are provided alongside other medical and psychological treatments to ensure you remain safe and comfortable as the substances leave your system. This treatment combines the use of medications, counseling, behavioral therapy, and clinical care, to make the process of coming off alcohol to be as safe and comfortable as possible.
Medications are given in prescription amounts under the supervision of our medical team. They are used to satisfy the body’s cravings for alcohol and stop withdrawal symptoms and do not get you high or create a new addiction. In this way, they are successful in helping reduce the risk of relapse.
Medical detox focuses on the whole patient, rather than only the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Because of this, it has been proven to improve a patient’s survival rate, and their ability to live an independent, self-directed life.

Medical Alcohol Detox
Resurgence has a program for medical alcohol detox that is customized to each patient’s needs. Everybody’s detox is different. Symptoms vary from person to person depending on your family history, mental health factors, genetics, and the length of the addiction, as well as medical factors. You will be provided with medications to help you rest and relax, medications that will stop alcohol cravings, and medications to keep you comfortable.
If you have a co-occurring mental illness or other condition like PTSD, depression or a mood disorder, we can also provide psychiatric medications along with therapy during detox, using our whole-person approach to treatment. These conditions are usually interconnected in some way, so it is best to get to the root of addiction along with mental illnesses at the same time, so you can move on to rehab with your best foot forward.
Continuing Recovery After Alcohol Detox
Detox does not solve addiction; it is only the first step. After alcohol detox, it is highly recommended for treatment to continue into one of our inpatient rehabilitation programs or a partial hospitalization program, so you can continue to work to recover from your addiction.
Generally, the inpatient rehab timeline is 30-, 60-, or 90-days, followed by an extended outpatient and alumni program, which can last as long as you need. Our goal is for you to feel confident, supported, and ready to take each new challenge as it comes, with new coping strategies, new sober connections, and a new outlook on life. You may receive treatments like:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Experiential Therapy
- Trauma-Informed Therapy
- Equine Therapy (Texas Location)
- 12-Step Groups
- SMART Recovery Groups
- One-on-one talk therapy
- Biofeedback
- Art therapy
Each person’s treatments are custom designed to address your specific needs, and we will not make you do anything you do not want to do. We will take your life situation into account, as well as your budget, your preferences, and your goals for the future as we create your program. Our staff also continuously monitors each patient’s progress and adjusts timelines and plans accordingly.

Ongoing Support for Alcohol Addiction
Some of the key factors for staying sober include:
Family support

At Resurgence, we not only offer support to the person with the addiction, but also provide family therapy and education to help repair damaged relationships, give information about what addiction is, and provide strategies and advice on how to move forward together with improved communication and a more solid relationship.

Aftercare services
A continued connection to sober peers and professional support is crucial for people who have completed a rehab program and are now living independently. Addiction recovery is a life-long process, and if there are bumps in the road, you will need somebody to talk to. At Resurgence, we have alumni programs, continued group support in our facility, and the option to make an appointment to speak with a therapist. You will never have to be alone in your recovery with Resurgence.
Sober living home options
If you do not have a stable place to live, or if your friends and family are unable to provide the sober-friendly and supportive environment you need, we can offer referrals to sober living homes in your area. These are homes with strict rules about drug and alcohol use, including random drug tests.
