What To Expect During Drug Rehab
The first thing that happens during drug rehab is the intake interview and the psychological and medical exams. We will get to know all about you, your level of addiction, your physical and mental health, and we will find out what your goals are for recovery. This way, we can customize a program that will most benefit you.
You will then move into a detox program. At Resurgence, we offer a MAT (medically assisted treatment) detox program, which is an integrated program that provides FDA-approved, prescription doses of medications to help you taper off drugs without suffering the worst of your withdrawal symptoms. For example, when quitting heroin, you may be provided with methadone or buprenorphine to stop the intense drug cravings, and another medication for pain and to help you relax. As you will detox within our facility, the effects of these medications are closely monitored so you do not develop a new addiction. During your detox, we will also begin therapy and counseling, and if there are other mental health issues present such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, or depression, you will also begin a dual diagnosis treatment.
Once you have detoxed, you will move directly into rehab. Our rehab programs are multifaceted, with many different types of group and individual therapy and other programs. These include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Experiential therapy
- Trauma-Informed therapy
- One-on-one talk therapy
- Couples therapy
- Family therapy
- Group therapy
Inpatient care is crucial for many of our clients because you will be removed from your usual surroundings, taking away your everyday worries and triggers. We provide scheduled days surrounded by your peers, with evening leisure activities like movie and game nights, sports, and off-campus outings. You will have the time and the space you need to change your mindset and make behavioral changes that will benefit you for a lifetime.
Choosing Inpatient or Outpatient Drug Rehab
Generally, we will always recommend a 30-day minimum stay in inpatient rehab, because:
- Inpatient rehab offers a new environment away from the enablers, places and stressors that could trigger relapse
- The time in inpatient rehab is about your healing, and you will have time to focus on yourself
- You will have professional medical supervision, with somebody to turn to 24 hours a day
- You will be surrounded by peers who know what you are going through, with plenty of opportunity during group therapy and in your downtime to socialize with like-minded people
- Rehab is a 100% sober environment, so during difficult times there will not be access to drugs or alcohol
That being said, at Resurgence Behavioral Health, we recognize that not everybody is capable of leaving their responsibilities for a full month or more, and we can work with you to customize an outpatient program that will best benefit your unique situation. Some benefits of outpatient programs include:
- Having complete support and care, while having the freedom to return to your important responsibilities like taking care of family members, going to work, or attending class
- A flexible program that can vary in intensity and frequency as your needs evolve over time
- Access to a new sober community and sober friendships near home through alumni groups, sober living homes and your peers at rehab
- Never feeling alone in your recovery, as you will always have someone to turn to for as long as you need
- The ability to immediately use your new coping techniques in real-life scenarios
Because you do not have 24-hour care in outpatient rehab, it is best suited to people who are no longer experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms, and for people who are willing and able to consistently get themselves to their appointments, groups, and therapy.
At Resurgence, there are two main levels of outpatient rehab, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In the PHP you will commute into your local outpatient rehab center for full days of treatment, up to seven days a week if you need. In the IOP, you will live outside the rehab center and commute in with a flexible schedule that allows you to keep a normal daily routine, with groups and therapy available in the evenings or weekends for those who cannot come during the day.
In our Nashville outpatient drug rehab program, you will stay in touch with medical and psychiatric professionals, and we will provide you with full support as you return to your everyday life after detox and inpatient rehab programs. We will give you the skills, therapy, groups, and community you may need to stay in recovery long-term as you successfully practice your new sober living skills as you live your life.
Prescription Drug Rehab
Prescription drug abuse is common, particularly with the more addictive prescriptions that flood the brain with dopamine or otherwise get you high. Over time, your tolerance will increase, and you will begin to need higher doses to get the same effect and prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Prescription drug addiction is a serious issue, but with a combination of the medical detox, inpatient and outpatient rehab programs at Resurgence Behavioral Health, we can help you get through your detox without suffering needlessly, help you find the root of your addiction so you can achieve long-term recovery success, and provide you with sobriety tools that will last a lifetime.
