Just Works

Signs and Symptoms of Heroin Addiction

Some of the signs and symptoms that are often associated with heroin addiction include:

Personal and professional issues

Although it may not happen right away, over time you will begin to experience issues in your personal or professional life. You will find it difficult if not impossible to maintain these responsibilities if you’re under the influence of heroin. Losing your job or struggling to keep up with relationships with friends or family members are signs of addiction.

Health concerns

Heroin can have a sudden and drastic impact on your health. If you notice that your health or the physical or psychological well-being of someone that you love is starting to change and suffer, it may be worth it to speak with them about possible substance abuse depending on the situation.

Money problems

It takes a substantial amount of money to maintain a heroin addiction. Over time, your body will begin to crave more and more of this substance which means that you will continue to struggle to maintain your addiction financially. If you or a loved one cannot pay their bills or they are becoming more secretive in terms of where their money is going, it’s possible that there may be something more going on in the background.

Heroin Withdrawal Symptoms and Timeline

Part of your recovery will include going through detox and withdrawal. This part of the process is often what makes people hesitant in reaching out for help because they know that during this stretch of time it’s possible that they may feel and be incredibly sick. While the withdrawal process may be slightly different for each person, here is an approximate timeline of what you can expect during heroin withdrawal:

Acceptance

Before you can truly commit to a heroin detox and rehab plan, you must first come to the realization and conclusion that you have an addiction and, as a result, need professional assistance in overcoming this disease.

The first 72 hours

Without question, the first 72 hours of your sobriety may be the most challenging because this is the time where you will feel the worst both physically and psychologically. Your withdrawal symptoms will typically set in within just a few hours from the time that you last consume heroin. While it’s true that withdrawal symptoms may begin on the mild side, they will continue to grow in intensity and may not peak until the 3rd day of detox. These intense withdrawal symptoms are part of the reason why we never recommend that you attempt to go through the detox process unless you are under the care of a trained medical professional.

Decrease in severity of symptoms

After the first 72 hours of detox, you will begin to notice that you will slowly begin to feel more like yourself. At that point, we can start to talk with you about your plans for continued treatment. Don’t forget that coming to detox is only the first step in a journey that will last you the rest of your life. While you may feel substantially better after this first week, you will still need to put in work to come to a better understanding of the root cause of your addiction and work through those contributing factors so that you don’t fall back into the trap of addiction.

Medical Detox for Heroin Addiction

It’s undeniable that the detox process can be challenging and stressful which is why the team at our heroin rehab for San Diego residents offers the option to commit to our medical detox program. Medical detox will give you the chance to incorporate certain forms of medication into your detox plan which can help to lessen the severe impact of withdrawal symptoms. Keep in mind that you may need to continue to take these medications into your treatment plan. At that point, we will speak with you more about our medically assisted treatment plan, also known as MAT.

Inpatient Heroin Rehab

Whenever possible, we strongly encourage our clients to seriously consider working through an inpatient program. There are numerous advantages of deciding to seek professional heroin rehab near San Diego for inpatient treatment. Our inpatient program will provide you with the around-the-clock care and treatment that you may need during this stage of your recovery. By having a safe and sober environment along with the continuous support of our treatment team, you will be able to better focus on the steps that you need to take to conquer your heroin addiction.

Similar to our outpatient programs, our inpatient heroin rehab can last anywhere between 30 and 90-days. If you begin with a shorter 30 or 60-day program, you can always extend your treatment plan by 30 or 60 days simply by speaking to a member of our team.

During your time in inpatient heroin rehab, you will experience a variety of different talk therapies. For example, if you wanted to extend your treatment program, you can always talk about doing this during our individual therapy sessions. Individual therapy is distinct in the sense that you will have the chance to speak to a member of our team in a personalized and private setting. Not only will you talk to your addiction therapist about how you feel you’re progressing in your treatment but also different aspects of your life or traumas that you may not feel comfortable talking about in a group setting. Although we will always encourage you to share during group therapy, we believe that providing you with this additional way to express yourself is critically important.

Outpatient Heroin Rehab

If you work or go to school in San Diego, it’s possible that you may not be able to commit to an inpatient heroin rehab. Our general outpatient program and intensive outpatient program provide our clients with more flexibility so that they are able to see to personal or professional responsibilities in their life while still receiving the treatment that they need to address their addiction to heroin. Your hourly commitment to an outpatient program will depend on the type of program that you choose, however, you can rest assured that we will always do everything that we can to help you put together a program that does not impede on your current work or personal responsibilities.

MAT Drug Rehab for Heroin Addiction

MAT heroin rehab has grown to become an incredibly effective treatment for heroin addiction. This is because MAT, also known as medically assisted treatment, can make your recovery process more manageable and less traumatic all around. It’s important to remember that it would be impossible to predict when we would end a MAT plan. There are many people that show great progress during their first 90 days of treatment and, as a result, they can begin to transition and develop their recovery program to no longer include medication. However, there are certain situations where it may be advisable for a person to continue on in their recovery journey through a medically assisted treatment plan. This is why we provide personalized treatment plans so that we can ensure that you receive the type of care that you need.
