Outpatient Drug Treatment Programs near Austin

Can Drug Rehab be Done as an Outpatient?

For some people, getting help for drug addiction at a rehab center seems like an impossible task. They may wonder how it is possible for somebody who works full time to attend rehab without losing their job. Some college students cannot step away from their classes without losing financial aid and scholarships, and other people have children or other dependents they cannot leave behind. If this sounds like you fear not. There is a solution: outpatient rehab.

Life is busy, and you have many responsibilities that you cannot easily walk away from for a full 30 days of inpatient rehab, and that is where outpatient programs shine. With an outpatient rehab program, you will be able to “do it all”.

At Resurgence Behavioral Health outpatient centers, therapy, groups, and doctor’s visits can be scheduled around your work, school, or other responsibilities, so you can get the help you need in a customized treatment plan that will work best for your unique needs and lifestyle.

What is Outpatient Drug Rehab Like?

Drug rehab in outpatient care in Austin is important for so many individuals who cannot stop working at their jobs or caring for their children to go to rehab. It is also recommended to anybody who has completed an inpatient rehab program but still wants support and guidance from addictions experts. There are different types of outpatient programs, but each of them will provide the skills you will need to get sober, remain in recovery long-term, and take back control over your life.

When you begin outpatient rehab at Resurgence, your treatment plan will include an initial assessment to find out about your health, your level of addiction, and what you want to get out of your program. Depending on your needs, we will provide up to seven days a week of outpatient care, along with education, process groups, family/couples counseling, and more. You can also visit any of our outpatient centers to attend a traditional 12-step meeting or an evidence-based SMART recovery meeting, and you can book appointments to meet with one-on-one therapists.

Types of Outpatient Drug Treatment Programs

There are different types of outpatient drug treatment programs Austin residents can take advantage of at Resurgence Behavioral Health. These include:

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

This is a program intended to help people move from inpatient rehab or detox back into everyday life. It acts as an intermediate step in which you do not live inside the facility but come for up to seven days a week of full days of programming, like therapy, groups, and life-skills coaching. There is strong support from our staff and from peers as you begin to slowly return to your life, trying out your new sobriety skills in the world. Your focus during your time in the PHP is on regaining personal responsibility for your actions and working on using coping skills during difficult times.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The IOP is a program that provides flexibility to each patient. You can keep a normal daily routine that includes work, school, childcare, and taking care of other responsibilities, and then schedule your rehab outside of those hours. In the IOP you will have continued support through therapy, groups, and counseling, so you can apply your newly learned recovery skills to everyday life scenarios. The IOP creates opportunities to grow friendships with other people who are in recovery, providing a healthy support system that will come in handy when you are presented with temptations or challenges in the future.

A virtual version of the IOP (VIOP) exists in some of the Resurgence locations. It is an option for continued care, with meetings and therapy taking place via a special telehealth platform. This option works great for people who traveled from out of town for residential treatment and want to continue speaking with the same care providers after they return home. The virtual meetings will help keep you grounded, providing support as you return you your work, family or school.

How Long Does Outpatient Drug Rehab Last?

Outpatient drug rehab is a completely customizable program that is different for every person. In general, time spent in a PHP will be short, usually, one to two weeks, as it is a transitional program to help people leaving detox and inpatient treatment dip a toe back out into the “real world” without becoming overwhelmed. Gradually their freedoms are restored to them until they are ready for an IOP.

IOP programs can last anywhere from a few months to years. We always encourage people to stay in rehab for as long as they need support, and, depending on your personality, life situation, and level of addiction, as well as the drug you are in rehabilitation for, you may need a longer or shorter time than somebody else.

Our aftercare programs are lifelong programs if you want them to be. You are free to return to an Austin outpatient facility when you need it, for scheduled appointments, or to attend a 12-step or SMART recovery meeting. There are also peer/alumni groups that will be there for you, both online and in-person when you need somebody to talk to who understands what you are going through.

Outpatient vs. Inpatient Drug Rehab: Which One is Right for You?

If you are unsure which type of rehab is right for you, that’s okay. One of the first things we do at Resurgence is a medical and psychiatric screening, as well as an in-depth interview to get to know all about you, your life, and your addiction. This way, we will have all the information we need to point you in the right direction.

You may be a good candidate for outpatient drug rehab in Austin if you:

  • Have recently completed a medical detox program and/or an inpatient rehab program, and are not currently experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms
  • Do not need full-time medical supervision, and have your mental health conditions under control
  • Are highly motivated in your recovery, and feel ready to use your new recovery skills in an unstructured setting, but still want support
  • Have a sober-friendly place to live, ideally with family or friends who will act as a solid support network
  • Have a low risk of relapsing
  • Are willing and able to show up on your own to meetings, appointments, and groups, including arranging your own transportation, getting there on time, and managing your own calendar

Generally, inpatient rehab is recommended to anybody recovering from addiction because it:

  • Provides a new environment in which you can focus on yourself and healing
  • Has 24-hour medical care available to you if you need it
  • Gives each day structure, keeping you busy and making each moment count
  • Provides a community, with opportunities to get to know like-minded people
  • Has many options for therapy, including equine therapy in our Texas location
  • Gives help with meals, providing information about healthy diets, nutrition, and exercise

Inpatient rehab may also be better for you than outpatient care if:

  • You have a high risk of relapsing, or have a history of relapsing
  • Your level of addiction and physical health requires 24-hour medical care
  • You do not have a safe and sober place to live as you recover from addiction
  • You are experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms, even after detoxing
  • You have tried and did not succeed at completing outpatient detox multiple times
  • Suffer from severe psychiatric disorders

Outpatient Rehab to Prevent Relapse

Because recovery is a process, not a destination, most people will need a steady place to turn occasionally, for extra support through therapy sessions or groups. Through access to sober living homes in your area, recovery groups, and our aftercare and alumni programs, you will always have somebody to talk to when times get hard, long after you complete your outpatient program.

Contact us today for outpatient drug treatment programs Austin residents can count on to help prevent relapse. Even if you just want to find some friends or fun activities that are sober-friendly, our alumni group hosts reunions, barbecues, and sober outings that you can join.
