What To Expect in Outpatient Rehab?

When you first enter a Resurgence facility, you will go through our intake process. This involves:

  • a medical examination to determine your level of physical health and measure your addiction
  • a psychological screening to find any co-occurring mental health issues or trauma that needs to be addressed as you detox and rehabilitate
  • n interview, so we can get to know about your history with drug use, your family history, and learn more about you as a person to help us customize your treatment program

All of this will help us to create a program that will best suit your needs, your budget, and your preferences. For example, if you are a more spiritual person, we may place you into a 12-step program that embraces the idea of giving up control to a higher power, or if you love to make art, we may be able to find a program that integrates artistic expression into experiential therapy for you.

After your intake is complete, you will need to go through a detox program. Detox before rehab is important because:

  • You will be able to focus on your treatment with a clear head in a stable condition
  • You will be able to be fully present during rehab, without worrying about where to get your next fix
  • Psychologically, you will be more ready to take in information and think about the future
  • Your body will be able to begin healing from the damage drugs have done
  • Any co-occurring conditions you have will be easier to treat without drugs masking your symptoms

After detox, you will be ready to move into a rehab program. At Resurgence, we generally recommend that everybody first spend a minimum of 30-days in inpatient rehab to be able to disconnect from your everyday life to be able to gain perspective and remove yourself from the usual triggers and stress that come with your work, your social life, and your relationships, but for some people, this is not possible. The responsibilities of life sometimes cannot be put off for a full month. This is where outpatient rehab comes into play.

In outpatient rehab at Resurgence, you will still be able to access all the programs and amenities that are available in inpatient rehab, with the flexibility of living at home or in a sober living home, so you can go to work or school, and take care of all your life’s responsibilities while receiving structured treatment scheduled around your life.

Why is Outpatient Rehab Important?

There are two main benefits to outpatient rehab:

1.      It is an excellent transitional step between inpatient rehab and aftercare. Living at home will make your treatment plan more affordable and convenient and will allow you to try out your new recovery skills in real-world scenarios It is an excellent way to transition from an inpatient program or day program back into your everyday life with full, continued support and a sustained connection to a sober community.

2.  It is a flexible, cost-effective option for people who cannot spend a full 30 days or more in inpatient rehab. You can join an outpatient rehab program directly after detoxing if your life circumstances will not allow you to be away from home for an extended period of time.

How Outpatient Rehab Works?

In outpatient rehab, you live outside the rehab facility and commute in for treatment. Outpatient programs are varied and flexible and can be a few days a week up to full days, every day, depending on your individual needs. There is no end date for outpatient rehab. We will be here to support you for as long as you need as you return to your everyday life as a sober person.

Types of Outpatient Rehab in Costa Mesa

At Resurgence, the main types of outpatient rehab available in Costa Mesa are:

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – In the PHP you will live at home and commute into the rehab center for full days of treatment, meetings, group and individual therapy, and another programming. You can come up to seven days a week if you need. This is usually an intermediary step between inpatient rehab and outpatient care.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Costa Mesa offers a unique approach to recovery. In the IOP, participants reside outside of the rehab center and commute in, benefiting from a flexible schedule that accommodates employment or school commitments, allowing for a regular daily routine. With group sessions and other programs available during evenings or weekends, it’s tailored for those who cannot attend during typical daytime hours. This model of care is particularly suitable for individuals who cannot step away from critical responsibilities such as work or family for extended durations. If, however, the need arises for a more immersive treatment environment, inpatient rehab Costa Mesa is also available to provide comprehensive care.

The Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP) – the VIOP is a virtual version of the IOP for people who do not live near an outpatient facility. You will still receive quality therapy and group sessions, but it will all take place online, via a special telehealth platform. This option is only available at select locations.

The Aftercare Program – After you feel you are ready to transition out of our outpatient programs, you will not be cut loose and left to fend for yourself. We have a continual aftercare program that keeps you connected to a sober community for life, through sober homes, alumni meetings, and sober outings. We also help you stay connected with the psychiatric and medical care you will need for the long term.

Benefits of Outpatient Rehab

When you join an outpatient program at Resurgence, you will have benefits like:

  • The freedom to return to responsibilities like work, family, and school while still receiving fully tailored, structured treatment and continued support through meetings and therapy
  • The flexibility of the program allows you to alter your frequency and intensity of visits to our facility as your needs change over time
  • The ability to immediately apply newly learned coping mechanisms to real-life scenarios
  • Access to a new, sober community through sober homes, alumni groups, and your peers at outpatient rehab creating new friendships and attending new activities that foster a sober lifestyle
  • Never feeling alone in your recovery after inpatient rehab
  • The opportunity to help and support others in their recovery
  • Virtual assistance or therapies if needed

How to Find the Best Outpatient Rehab in Costa Mesa?

You may want to begin your search for the best outpatient rehab for residents of Costa Mesa by doing an internet search, calling nearby rehab centers, and gathering information about what each of the facilities offers.

The best rehab centers will:

  • offer a full spectrum of care, from detox to inpatient rehab to outpatient rehab, all available within the same facility for ease of transition
  • have a medically assisted detox program so that you will not need to suffer unnecessarily while detoxing
  • have integrated treatments that combine mental wellness, emotional health, and physical health into one combined program
  • have life-skills counseling and other programs that will prepare you for life after treatment so you can become the best possible version of yourself and meet your post-rehab goals
  • use trauma-informed practices in all treatment, so that you will always feel respected and heard. You should never feel bullied into doing something you don’t want to in rehab
  • have the option for dual diagnosis treatment, for people who have co-occurring mental health conditions and/or trauma that needs to be dealt with at the same time as their addiction
  • provide lasting connections to a sober community through services like sober living home referrals or hosting alumni group activities
  • have options for long-term aftercare programs, because recovery is a lifelong process, and you may require extra support again down the road
  • offer a flexible spectrum of outpatient rehab, so you can adjust your program as your requirements change, coming to groups more or less frequently, or booking an extra therapy session when you need to

At Resurgence, we offer a fully integrated continuum of care that takes care of your physical health, mental condition, and emotional wellness in one, customized program. We will help you get to the underlying root of your addiction, work on self-destructive thought patterns and behaviors, and provide you with the coping strategies and sobriety tools you will need to remain in recovery for the long term. We will ensure you are supported and safe, we always get informed consent before moving forward with treatments, and we will be there for you for as long as you need us.
