Thriving in Recovery NA Meetings in Huntington Beach Resurgence Behavioral Health

Finding NA Meetings in Huntington Beach to Support Your Long Term Recovery

One of the most important things that you can do for yourself when you’re ready to overcome your addiction to drugs is to find a Narcotics Anonymous meeting that is local to your area. When you partner with a top-rated treatment facility such as Resurgence for drug rehab or alcohol rehab, you will always be encouraged to take this step as soon as possible because it can provide you with a new level of support that you may not have known was available. One of the best things about NA meetings is the fact they are available almost every time throughout the week. When you’re looking for the right NA meeting in Huntington Beach for you, here are some details that you may want to consider:

Day and time of the meeting

To ensure that you feel comfortable attending a meeting, it’s important that you find one that fits into your schedule. In Huntington Beach, there are several opportunities that you will have to attend a meeting that can fit in nicely around your work, school, or personal schedule.

In-person or virtual

When COVID-19 took hold, NA meetings switched over to a virtual format. Now that things are starting to open back up, there are meetings that offer a hybrid option which means that you can opt to attend in person or in the comfort of your own home. The decision that you make will be specific to your own personal preferences.

Open or closed

An open meeting is open to any person regardless of whether they are suffering from an addiction or not. A friend or family member can come with you to an open meeting simply to listen and learn more about addiction. A closed meeting, on the other hand, is specific to a person that has or is struggling with an addiction.

What is NA?

Narcotics Anonymous was an organization that was developed a handful of years after Alcoholics Anonymous. While Alcoholics Anonymous is a wonderful organization in and of itself, it is designed to be specific for alcoholics. As the number of people who found themselves addicted to one drug or another continued to grow, it was recognized by those in recovery as a group specifically for those that are suffering from an addiction to drugs. While the format of a NA meeting is similar to that of an AA meeting, you will notice that you can relate more to others in an NA meeting if you have an addiction to any type of drug.

The 12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous

Attendees of Narcotics Anonymous meetings follow 12 steps that are similar in many ways to the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. These steps are meant to serve as guides with the understanding that if you work through these steps, you will have the opportunity to be able to maintain a sober lifestyle. Here are the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous:

1. We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

It’s important to note that you should always work through the 12 steps with a sponsor. This is a person that has already worked through the 12 steps with their own sponsor and has some time in the program under their belt. It’s just as important to remember that the steps are designed for you to work through them multiple times. For instance, just because you work through the steps doesn’t mean that you will never have or develop shortcomings in your life again. At certain points, your sponsor may encourage you to revisit certain steps so that you can recenter yourself and so that you can become a better person in general.

Benefits of Attending Recovery Support Group Meetings in Huntington Beach

The benefits associated with incorporating NA meetings into your normal routine. Some examples include:

A unique level of support

When you attend an NA meeting, you give yourself the opportunity to meet a variety of people that are working their way through their own recovery program. As they begin to share their experiences, you may notice that you have things in common with other people attending the meeting. These connections can continue to grow and develop and ultimately help you to build your own system of support which can serve as an invaluable addition to your recovery.

Routine

When you’re in the midst of active addiction, it may be all but impossible for you to commit to a consistent routine when it comes to any aspect of your life. Something that you will learn during the time that you’re in recovery is the importance of maintaining a routine. When you take the time to attend a meeting or a variety of meetings throughout your week, you will be able to better focus on maintaining your sobriety and feel less distracted by possible temptations.

Develop a better understanding of your addiction

There are several people that begin their addiction recovery treatment and don’t recognize the fact that addiction is a disease. Instead, they are influenced by the people around them or simply by what they think they know in thinking that addiction is a choice. When you attend NA meetings, you will begin to learn that addiction is a terrible disease that can have devastating impacts on your life in general. However, with dedication and the right type of treatment, you will be able to overcome your addiction and go on to live a healthier and more fulfilling life.
