What Is Detox Like?

After our intake procedure, medical drug detox is the first stage of addiction treatment. As the body adjusts to the stopped drug use, it is important to be monitored by clinical staff, so they can help manage withdrawal symptoms. A supervised detox, with the support of medical staff and counselors, will keep you comfortable and safe.

Detox symptoms vary, depending on the drug you are detoxing from, the length of use, genetic makeup, and other medical factors like family history and mental health. At Resurgence, our qualified nursing team can give safe, prescription doses of medication to help mitigate the uncomfortable symptoms of detox. We do not want anybody to have to suffer.

What To Expect During Detox?

Almost any addictive substance that creates a chemical dependence requires detox before beginning the steps to recovery.

Benzodiazepines are prescription drugs that are potentially addictive, including Ativan, Valium, Klonopin, and Librium. They are used to control stress-related disorders like anxiety, insomnia, epilepsy, and alcohol withdrawal. The timeline to withdraw from these drugs depends on the dosage, length of addiction, and the person’s individual history.

Opiates and prescription pain pills are commonly abused by prescription holders and recreational users. Some common prescription opiate addictions are Vicodin, Hydrocodone, morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, and codeine. As a person stops taking these pills, even if they have been prescribed by a medical professional, they may experience withdrawal symptoms like pain, body aches, fatigue, and nausea. An opiate detox will help manage withdrawal safely, so the person can gradually stop taking them.

Heroin or diamorphine is a widely used opioid street drug and is common as a less expensive substitute for pain pills due to its euphoric highs. A person coming off heroin will experience the same withdrawal symptoms as someone coming off opioid pain pills.

Stimulants like amphetamines, Ritalin, and cocaine are often abused in party scenes. They elevate heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure, increasing energy and elevating a person’s mood. The withdrawal effects of stimulants produce the opposite effect, often causing depression and a lack of energy. A big risk during stimulant withdrawal is depression that can lead to suicidal tendencies. Cocaine withdrawal appears more like flu symptoms, or tremors.

Why Choose Resurgence For Drug Detox?

At Resurgence, we focus on the underlying causes and co-occurring disorders surrounding addiction, which creates a lasting lifestyle and personal transformation, leading to long-term recovery success.

Detox can be hard, but we are here to help. At Resurgence, our goal is to make the detox centers available to everyone, as a safe, welcoming facility with a skilled trained team of staff members, to help. We offer a variety of programs, therapies, and services, with the goal of providing care and support, to help the patient return to a happy and healthy life. The facilities are welcoming, community oriented, and surrounded by nature.

At Resurgence, there are options for drug detoxification. All options cover three main factors:

  1. Evaluating the level of substance use and dependence. Initially, the medical team screens incoming patients for physical and mental health issues, along with conducting an in-depth interview in order to formulate a personalized, long-term plan, including any dual diagnosis treatment that may be required.
  2. Stabilization: The detox team then provides medical and psychological therapy that is supported with prescribed addiction treatment medications to help patients manage withdrawal symptoms. Detox usually takes between seven to ten days, but everybody is different, and this can depend on the drug, as well as your medical history, and other factors.
  3. Preparing for rehabilitation treatment and transferring to long-term care: Once stabilized, you will be transferred to the inpatient facility. Detox is a short-term solution, but our comprehensive rehab programs will get to the root of addiction, creating long-term recovery success. You will learn strategies to sustain sobriety successfully and live a happy and independent life. Resurgence offers a variety of therapies in a scenic, peaceful atmosphere. Most residential rehab programs are 30, 60, or 90 days long, and will significantly reduce the risk of relapse.

The preferred approach for drug detox is called medical detox, which is especially important if you are addicted to a substance that can have severe withdrawal symptoms. In medical detox, you will stay at a Resurgence facility, and be given medications to manage withdrawal symptoms. This method helps manage uncomfortable, and acute symptoms like anxiety, depression, hallucinations, restlessness, and more. Some unsupervised withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening if untreated.

Another approach provided by Resurgence is Social Detoxification. You have the option of withdrawing from drugs without medication, but will still be under supervision by our medical staff in case of emergency. You will be supported, with health and progress checks, but no medication is given to handle symptoms or speed up the process.

Whichever method of detox you choose, Resurgence will provide a safe, comfortable, and caring environment. Since everybody’s requirements differ, the process is personalized to work for you as an individual.

Detoxing from a drug is an important first step to recovery, and at Resurgence, we aim to make it as easy and comfortable as possible. Nobody should have to suffer.
