Steve Fennelly, BS

Chief Executive Officer

Steve Fennelly is the founder and CEO of Resurgence California and holds a place in his heart for those in recovery. He has served the recovery community since 2009 when he founded Solid Landings Behavioral Health and realized his long held dream of creating a culture of recovery and “Gold Standard” quality service to those his program served and employed. Through his experience in recovery, Steve has developed a sense of what it takes to change lives and carry the message that recovery and an enhanced overall quality of life are possible. Steve earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Albertus Magnus, located in New Haven, CT, in 2001 and from there, he went on to found his first company Fennelly construction where he demonstrated his ability to create a quality product and grow a business from small beginnings to countless successes. Through his non-stop efforts, Steve grew Solid Landings Behavioral Health by over 200% in just three years and earned the prestige of the having the number one place to work in a private company in 2015. Solid Landings also received the “Gold Standard of Excellence” through its Joint Commission Accreditation in both Las Vegas and Austin locations and has received a three year accreditation from CARF in Costa Mesa. Recognition by both organizations affirmed the companies’ national recognition and commitment to excellence. Following his successes in business and program development, Steve continued to expand his experience and his desire to help others by being appointed to the Board of Directors of the REACH Foundation of Orange County which provided resources to those who struggled with addiction based on need. This was the first non-profit Steve was involved with. In addition to the above accolades, Steve was named one of the 100 most influential people by the Orange County Register for his work in addiction treatment in 2015. Resurgence California is proud to have Steve at the helm of their ship guiding them through any kind of weather.

Gene Miller

Chief Operating Officer

As the Chief Operating Officer at Resurgence Behavioral Health, Eugene Miller is responsible for leading and overseeing our organization’s ongoing operational, procedural and cultural development. With more than a decade working in the field under the highest accreditation standards in hospital and health care facilities, Eugene has an extensive knowledge in behavioral health management practices, clinical operations, crisis intervention, and various accreditation requirements related to behavioral healthcare. Eugene began his career with a hunger for working with individuals struggling with the disease of addiction. He believes that through collaboration and team centered approaches, any dream can be realized. Eugene also brings his own personal experience, having battled addiction at a young age, he understands the struggle individuals face, entering into recovery himself at the age of 22. His personal and professional ties have helped drive him to become a difference maker within the field of addictions. Despite humble beginnings, Eugene started as an entry level employee, holding various titles within multiple departmental divisions, and ultimately became an experienced and efficient leader in the behavioral health industry. Resurgence Behavioral Health is truly grateful and appreciative to have him as our guiding light.

BRANDON CAROL

Chief Marketing Officer

Brandon Carol has a background in intervention, substance abuse counseling, and clinical outreach. He has worked in the substance abuse industry since 2012 and excels in working with families and clients in crisis. Brandon joined as the VP of Business Development and shares the company’s vision of a tailored approach to finding the best treatment available. His past experience in leading teams in admissions and Business development has always been focused on finding clinically appropriate care to give those suffering the greatest opportunity for success. His compassion is evident in his personalized approach to ensure a smooth transition through pre-assessment, admission and discharge. From his personal experiences in recovery, “I know the feeling of isolation and trying to get sober alone. Whether someone needs help for themselves or a loved one, my goal is to provide serenity and hope for everyone affected by the addiction”.

KEVIN NICOLAU – CADC II, DEGREE IN ADDICTION COUNSELING

Kevin Nicolau began pursuit of his own Recovery in 2011, ultimately finding a life beyond his wildest dreams. He has obtained a degree in Addiction Counseling and is a certified CADC II by the state of California. Kevin brings passion for recovery to  men and women, leading by example with his consistent positive attitude and caring direction, along with being a firm believer in team cohesiveness.

Tiffany Nicolau, CADCII

Executive Vice President of Operations

As the VP of Compliance and Operations, Tiffany Nicolau brings extensive knowledge of quality care standards established by the Joint Commission and DHCS, experience in addictions treatment and successful program management to the team. With over nine years of experience in addictions treatment, Tiffany has held many roles within the industry ranging from a Case Manager to a Program Director to a Corporate Compliance Officer. Tiffany focuses on strong relationship based leadership, bringing empathy, compassion and insight, so as to provide a culture within the facility that promotes healthy boundaries and allows those trying to recover, the ability to immerse themselves in their treatment and have fun while they are in treatment. Working with the Leadership Team, Tiffany continues to create a culture that promotes the health and wellbeing of all that seek help.

Adrienne Stratton

Vice President of Strategic Outreach

Adrienne Stratton has been a fixture in the Addiction Treatment business with over 20 years of experience growing and leading several Business Development campaigns and teams. Her background includes business development for several start- ups, high end luxury treatment programs, and smaller niche programs that offer specific approaches. She has worked in Chemical Dependency and Mental Health facilities throughout Southern California, and her reach has also been national and international as she worked for a celebrity owned facility in the eastern Caribbean. Recently Adrienne stated, “I bring vision and heart to my work. I still find passion and a strong belief in doing my work ethically with people and organizations that I trust and know”. The issues of Addiction and Mental Health when untreated are devastating to society on many levels, and so we have much more work to do.

Cynthia Reinbach MS

Vice President of Compliance and Accreditation

Cynthia Reinbach, M.S. has been dedicated to mental health care and administration, focused primarily on addiction and substance use disorders, for over 30 years. She brings to Resurgence Behavioral Health her experience and expertise that include clinical care and supervision, clinical administration, fiscal planning, regulatory compliance, research administration, and overall management and program development. She brings this wealth of experience to our employees in expanding and honing their skill set as well as preparing them for further professional development and advancement.

Thomas Hollmeyer

Eastern Vice President of Business Development

As the Eastern VP of Business Development for Resurgence Behavioral Health, Thomas Hollmeyer leads the East Coast Marketing Team. Thomas began his career within the Substance Abuse Treatment field in 2011 and has held various roles from operations to business development. Being in recovery himself, Thomas brings his own experience and passion for recovery along with his extensive group of connections, allowing him to assist in finding the best placement for anyone seeking help. He is passionate about treating addiction as a whole, assuring that each client gets the best possible care from all angles while including their families in the healing process. Thomas is equally as passionate about each individuals’ recovery in his professional role as he is in his personal life.

Zachary Hood

Western Vice President of Business Development

As the Western VP of Business Development for Resurgence Behavioral Health, Zackary has built our Western Business Development team and helped bring us a national presence. Zackary has been in the substance abuse and mental health industry since 2016. He has a wealth of experience managing business development teams on a national scale. Zackary joined the Resurgence team back in 2019 and shares their core beliefs along with their individual style tailored treatment. Zackary prides himself by going above and beyond for the individuals and families that are suffering from this disease. Through his own personal struggles he knows what it is like to be on both sides of the treatment industry and stops at nothing to find help for those that are suffering.

Joseph Hernandez BS

Director of Billings and Collections

With over 15 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management and a Bachelor’s of Science in Healthcare Administration, Joseph brings to Resurgence his knowledge and experience to our Billing and Patient Financial Services department. Prior to Resurgence Joseph worked with one of Orange County’s largest hospital systems and interacted with clients across all levels of care. The financial costs of healthcare can be worrisome; Joseph’s goal is to help guide the process, work with your insurance, and create a repayment plan that is manageable after your care.

Shiva Shenavai BA

Director of Quality Assurance

Shiva has been working in the behavioral health care industry since 2014 in a variety of positions including operations, administration, and more recently quality assurance. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in sociology, she was driven by a desire to be able to better serve those in the community and provide access and resources for those facing incarceration. Understanding the complex entanglement between addiction and legal problems spurred her desire to attend law school. Shiva will be sitting for the bar exam in July of 2021 and is passionate about the intersection of criminal defense and behavioral health care.

As the court liaison for Resurgence Behavioral Health, she is committed to fiercely advocating for those seeking treatment services and ensuring that each person has an opportunity for recovery and rehabilitation, regardless of whatever legal impediments they may be facing.

Lawrence V. Tucker, M.D.

Medical Director

Lawrence V. Tucker, M.D. is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, practicing in pharmacological management of psychiatric disorders and addiction medicine. Dr. Tucker attended UCLA for his undergraduate degree, where he obtained a B.S. in Physiological Sciences. He then attended UCLA School of Medicine for his Medical Degree and stayed at UCLA for his residency in Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been in leadership roles since 2006 and is a Certified Physician Executive. Prior to attending UCLA, Dr. Tucker served in the United States Marine Corps, Infantry, and served in Desert Storm. Among the long list of accomplishments, Dr. Tucker feels most accomplished with his blended family of 5 children and his wife of over 13 years. In addition, Dr. Tucker has a private practice in Newport Beach CA. His paradigm of treatment is that he: “Treats a person Not a Diagnosis”. He uses a holistic model and incorporates sobriety, exercise, diet, therapy, supplements, as well as psychopharmacological therapies.

Jamie Littleton, M.S., LMFT

National Clinical Director

“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy.”

Jamie is a LMFT Associate and a graduate from California State University, Fullerton. She has worked as both a clinical outreach coordinator and a clinician at the inpatient and outpatient levels of care. She enjoys agency work and being part of a treatment team. Her passion and experience is in working with adolescents and young adults struggling with mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, and eating disorders.

Jamie’s enthusiasm, dedication and creativity has added to a strong team of business growth and development. Her responsibilities have included opening, growing and maintaining census at new locations as well as maintaining reciprocal relationships within the community. She thoroughly enjoys collaborative work with local facilities, hospitals, colleges and private practitioners.

Jamie is currently the Director of Company Culture at Resurgence Behavioral Health, LLC and is responsible for working with the employees to maintain the values and mission of the company. She is a strong advocate for employees and for clients to ensure all needs are being met. Jamie has worked with employees and clients for over five years and it is the foundation of the company’s vision.

Nathan Fransen Esq.

General Counsel

Since 2006, Nathan has enjoyed a diverse and challenging legal career. Representing corporate clients and individuals over the years has allowed him to develop a unique understanding of competing perspectives. Nathan has successfully tried cases in state and federal court and has argued before courts of appeals in both California and the Ninth Circuit. He has also represented clients in complex transactions including mergers and acquisitions. While practicing law in itself can be a fulfilling vocation, he now particularly enjoys the satisfaction of working for a company with a sincere desire to help others and with people focused on this same objective. Nathan’s undergraduate degree is in Business Operations and he received his Juris Doctorate from Chapman University School of Law.

KERRY JONES

HUMAN RESOURCES

Kerry Jones has over five years working in the drug and alcohol industry providing operational and administrative support. A highly motivated, dedicated, independent, and detail-oriented individual, she successfully handled projects over many departments in a large corporation. Kerry possesses a strong interest and in-depth understanding of intricate problems and strategic growth, she looks to problem solve and coordinate structure and organization through analytical skills and creative thinking which is an integral part of managing the Human Resources Department.  Guided by the leaders who have inspired her both past and present, she is a dedicated team player with an unwavering commitment towards redefining and surpassing an organizations set goals and ensuring the success not only of the company but the clientele they serve and hope to help.

Kristen Garubba, MA, EdD, LMFT

Clinical Supervisor

Kristen is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and comes to us from a clinical and administrative behavioral health background. Educational achievements include both her masters and doctorate in psychology from Argosy University. Her training includes: substance abuse recovery, trauma focused therapies, as well as family, individual, couples and group therapy. Kristen is also able to serve as a clinical supervisor to registered interns. Her work with multiple populations and clinical presentations has led her to gain a wide breadth of experience and an ability to work with many different types of clients. Kristen has the ability to develop rapport with all those she works with due to her: patience, warmth, and overall compassion which has led to success with even the most difficult of cases and situations. Additional achievements include developing a recovery program for Solid Landing’s Long Beach branch (Hope’s Landing),which required building a recovery program from the ground up. She was also tasked with creating a clinical and operations team while developing a program that met both clinical, regulatory, and client needs. Within six months, the program grew from 12 to 22 beds and treated levels of care from RTC to IOP. Her team development and family team approach helped create a success story for the clients and staff alike. Kristen’s main focus is overall client health, meeting the needs of all program participants including staff, and creating a clinically sound environment.

ANTHONY SMITH – CADC II

QUALITY ASSURANCE DIRECTOR

Anthony has six years experience working in the treatment field. After getting a year in recovery he started contemplating how he could give back, and decided to work in treatment because it felt like it was where he was meant to be. Shortly after beginning he returned to school for additional studies and obtained his behavioral science degree along with his CADC. There is no better joy he gets than being part of the transformation that happens when someone decides to seek treatment. He takes great pleasure in helping clients become the fathers, uncles, brothers and sons that they are meant to be. All of the clients he has worked with over the years come in broken and lost in their own way and being part of the reconstruction of their lives, is something that words just can not explain.

KRISTEN ZAMPA / DAWSON

PROGRAM MANAGER

Kristen Zampa-Dawson battled with addiction for over 20 years. In 2011, she made the decision to face her fears and enter drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Now, with seven and half years of sobriety, she is able to focus on her passion and give back to those who still struggle with the disease. Kristen has worked in the addiction treatment field for the past seven years; she has held various positions in the field from support staff to program Director. She has worked for residential treatment, a recovery hospital and is also a member of the board of directors for The WISEPlace for Women, a local women’s shelter.

SUSAN HO BERZON – PsyD, LMFT

LEAD THERAPIST

Susan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She holds a doctorate degree in marriage and family therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.  Susan has experience in various clinical settings working with clients in partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care, community clinics, treatment facilities, and schools.  Susan is a psychodynamic therapist trained in EMDR.  She specializes in depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and family dynamics.  Susan is also an adjunct faculty at TCSPP in Irvine.

Alicia Delgado, CADC-CAS

Case Manager

Alicia Delgado is a Case Manager at Resurgence California. She has worked in the recovery feld for 18 years and has used her skills, compassion, client understanding, hard work ethic, and tenacity to aid clients in furthering their recovery journey. She has extensive knowledge in: case management, 12 step programs, anger management, reintegration after treatment, and understanding the behaviors and challenges associated with substance abuse. Alicia attended Cal State Dominguez Hills from 1998 to 2000 where she she pursued her education in Drug and Alcohol services and received her state certification in 2001. Alicia has had a long standing career in recovery case management and has worked with a variety of populations including: adults, youth, men, women, and those who are on parole and are trying to make a new start. During her time at Behavioral Health services, Alicia served mothers and mothers with their children who were attempting to recover from substance abuse and, in some instances, regain custody of their children. It was there that she utilized her skills in psychoeducation and resource utilization to aid these clients in seeking successful outcomes. Alicia began her role with Dare to Care following her time at Behavioral Health Services as an intern in her drug and alcohol counseling career. She rose within the company to obtain a paid position as a case manager once her internship ended. From there, Alicia moved on to Helping kids recover where she worked tirelessly to aid youth who were both on parole and were recovering from substance abuse issues. Alicia worked as both a case manager and a program manager who served to train and inform other case managers in effective methods to better aid program participants by sharing her knowledge of recovery and the 12 step program. Prior to coming to Resurgence California Alicia served adult parolees with the STOP program who were in recovery through their release and reintegration through recovery programming and transition to sober living. We are grateful to have such a dedicated and seasoned case manager on the team.

DEANNA VANLUE – LVN

Deanna Vanlue is a Licensed Vocational Nurse with over 10 years experience working in the field of treatment and recovery. Deanna has over 20 years of sobriety herself and is able to share her knowledge and compassion with clients through each stage of their recovery journey. Deanna believes recovery is a combination of mind, body and soul, and nothing brings her greater joy than when clients actually get the opportunity to see the change in themselves. As Client Care Coordinator, Deanna has the ability to meet clients “where they are at” and help them feel safe and supported because of her own life experiences. Deanna is a lover of the sun and any kind of water; river, beach, lake. She loves spending time with her family, friends, and her two doggies.

JUDY ROBLES – LVN

Judy has 22 years experience working in Mental Health/Addiction Treatment services, providing various levels of client care. She is a dedicated member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team known for her excellent clinical skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, provide positive reinforcement for staff and clients. Judy has a great ability to show care and concern for her clients not only by listening with her ears, but with her eye contact and smile she always has on her face.

For over 15 years he has been dedicated to improving the health and fitness of others. His clientele has ranged from athletes to mothers wanting to get back in shape and mostly those who just want to improve their functional movements and strength. No matter your goal, he will custom tailor the exercises to meet your fitness goals.

David has worked in Sales Management and Operational roles for over 20 years. Most recently CRM administration, development and team building. His  own personal recovery has led him to serve in various capacities in treatment. David has great passion for opening doors to brighter futures for those who seek it.

RACHEL CAROL

Business Development

Rachel is a Certified Addictions Specialist who joined the Admissions team at Resurgence Behavioral Health after working in the clinical department as a case manager for over five years. Rachel’s empathetic and nurturing nature allows her to provide support to families and those who are struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. Rachel utilizes her knowledge of substance use disorders to help those in need better understand the treatment process and what to expect, increasing a sense of comfort and trust which is imperative to the healing process. Rachel believes in helping each individual overcome their fears of seeking help when they are most in need, and believes in maintaining continuous follow-up, through the treatment process.

Mia Colica, LMFT

Clinical Supervisor

Mia Collica is a licensee marriage and family therapist specializing in addiction, anxiety and depression. She uses a collaborative and holistic approach and believes that treatment should be tailored to the individual client and their unique needs. Mia also has a private practice in San Juan Capistrano and enjoys yoga and volunteering for dog rescue in her free time.

Scott Peterson, MSW

Clinical Supervisor

Scott is a Licensed Clinician Social Worker with over 30 years of experience in the substance abuse and mental health field bringing a unique blend of clinical experience as well experience working in the medical insurance industry. Scott brings a clinical understanding of medical necessity criteria at the various levels of care and how to best work with Insurance companies to get needed authorizations for clients. Scott’s focus is on understanding empirically validated treatment approaches recognized by Insurance and how to implement these proven treatment modalities with an interdisciplinary team focus to ensure clients at Resurgence are given the foundation for lifelong recovery

Tommie Whitten

Central Vice President of Business Development

As the Central Vice President of Business Development for Resurgence Behavioral Health, Tommie leads the central business development team. He began his career in the community mental health systems and is passionate about helping people. Tommie joined the Resurgence team in 2020 and leads a diverse team of professionals to help the “sick and suffering” get the help they need and deserve. His past experience leading teams in business development has always been focused on meeting patients where they are at and providing ethical and responsible referrals for treatment. Tommie is a native of Mississippi and believes in a very down home approach to business development and patient care. “My dad always told me you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, that’s the mantra I provide to everyone I cross paths with”.

Heather Ayala MS. RD.

Nutritionist

Heather is a Registered Dietitian with a Master’s degree in Nutritional Science and a passion for helping our clients heal their bodies and minds with evidence-based nutrition therapy. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and completed her Dietetic Internship, at California State University Long Beach, in a program devoted to mindful eating. All of her studies began after she herself recovered from substance-use disorder with the help of good nutrition, and she brings this experience and understanding into every interaction she has with both staff and clients. Grace, compassion, and objective guidance are the foundations of her professional practice when she works with our clients in her Nutrition in Recovery groups and in individual consultations, and she is hard at work with our culinary staff developing the best food and nutrition program among substance abuse recovery centers in the nation.

Micah Petty

Business Development

Micah brings years of experience to Resurgence. She worked in non-profit social services for five years before entering behavioral healthcare in outreach in 2016. Her passion comes from watching her mother working in the industry and then eventually helping friends and family who struggle with substance misuse & mental health issues.
Micah‘s dedication comes from witnessing the transformation of families after receiving effective clinical services. When Micah is not on the phone or face-to-face with providers, she is a proud and dedicated mother to her two children and one energetic French bulldog. Most of her time is spent at the baseball field cheering her son Ethan on with her daughter Charleigh. Micah is an avid sports fan, loves to travel, enjoys live music, art, and can make a meal out of chips and salsa.

Suzanne Gilman BA, MBA

Financial Consultant

Suzanne Gilman has served as interim CFO since May 2020. Suzanne has over 20 years in senior financial leadership roles, including CFO, VP Finance or Controller for companies in aerospace, technology, construction, media, hospitality, and not for profit. Her areas of expertise include SEC reporting, budgeting and financial modeling, systems implementations, restructuring, due diligence support, integration of acquisitions, internal controls, and compliance. Most recently, she has contracted with companies to support transactions, and build accounting teams and systems to prepare for and support growth. Suzanne began her finance career and earned her CPA with Ernst & Young. She earned a BA in Creative Writing and Literature from Dartmouth College, and an MBA with Specialization in Finance from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

HOPE “HOPIE” FENNELLY

Hopie was our first rescue puppy and we quickly realized the impact she had on the clients and staff. It wasn’t long after that Hope became the company therapy pup. Hope became a part of our family in 2011 and has been bringing smiles to everyone since. Hopie enjoys long walks, playing fetch, and enjoying some time for herself. Hope is a special spirit that reminds us to honor everyone’s uniqueness. She is also a fan of routine, investigating new places and playing with her brothers. Her hobbies include traveling and attending sports games with dad while routing for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Jonnie, our little Chihuahua mix rescue, has been a part of the family for 7 years. Johnnie loves meeting new people and can quickly turn a bad day into a great day! Johnnie provides our community with a lot of companionship and love. Johnnie enjoys sitting on laps, sunbathing and sleeping in on Sundays. Johnnie is also a fan of baseball and football, like his sister, and is a die-hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. Johnnie loves being a therapy dog!

Fen joined our gang back in 2015 all the way from Texas. Our newest therapy dog is full of excitement and loves to play. Fenway encapsulates the spirit of his sporting nuclear family. Fen is named after Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox! Fen likes to be a protector and loves to welcome you home to start your journey. Fen loves to play, be fearless and play at the beach.
